SUMMARY
The Compute Administrator works at the direction of the Aviation Technology Infrastructure Manager in installing configuring monitoring the security of compute technology throughout multiple networks and network platforms at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.The position will be responsible for configuring maintaining and administering physical and virtual servers Windows Server operating systems Linux Server Operating Systems continuous server replication installing hardware and software upgrades and patches and advanced troubleshooting. Additional responsibilities may include business continuity/disaster recovery planning and testing administering systems such as VMWare vSphere Nutanix HPE VME Active Directory/Group Policy Azure/Office 365 etc. complex implementation projects training or reviewing the work of lower levels in the career family and providing Documentation for responsible systems. This position is on-call 7x24x365 as needed to respond to service-impacting conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for project setup / contribution throughout the life of the projects. Work closely with all departments and vendor(s) to ensure project details are current and up to date (e.g. project details status dates etc.) to ensure data integrity is maintained and CLTs large portfolio of projects is accurately tracked and well-managed.
- Install configure and maintain VMWare vSphere / ESXI Nutanix HPE VME
- Install configure and maintain physical server / storage infrastructure
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization as well as responding to alerts
- Provide technical analysis and/or assistance in troubleshooting issues
- Apply patches updates and firmware updates to server / storage systems.
- Design initiate and drive server / storage strategies architecture discussions preventative maintenance plans and technical analysis
- Work with vendors to ensure optimal setup and configuration of server / storage environments and that appropriate support expectations are in place
- Create and maintain server / storage-related operational policies and procedures
- Comply with the approved standards policies and procedures within the culture of compliance that has been established
- Design consult and provide documentation diagrams and informational tables associated with various server storage and other environments
- Design and implement both physical and logical network implementations between compute resources and endpoints
- Design implement and support multiple Redundant functionalities in a complex environment including High-Availability and Disaster-Recovery to ensure as close to 24/7 operation as possible.
- Troubleshoot and design network security implementations to ensure compute resources are given minimum levels of access needed
- Assure proper access and permission assignments are granted to all user roles to ensure appropriate levels of security are maintained.
- Assists both CLT and City of Charlotte I&T leadership with quality of data and project management reporting capabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience
OR
Associates degree and 5 years relevant experience
OR
Bachelors degree and 3 years relevant experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field-
- Three (3) to Five (5) years prior experience with information systems administration/management with focuses on many or all the following
- VMWare VSphere/Nutanix/HPE VME/ProxMox
- Hosted Cloud (Amazon AWS Microsoft Azure Google Cloud Platform)
- Active Directory/Group Policy
- Windows Server OS Administration
- Linux Administration (Preferable Red Hat Ubuntu or Oracle)
- Azure/Office 365
- Firewall Devices (Preferably Palo Alto or Fortigate)
- Storage Area Network (SAN) or other Storage Technologies
- Networked device Management
- Network switch management
- Airport/Airline operations
- PCI and CIS Security standards for Servers
Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
- One of Comptia A/Network/Security
- Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
- VMWare Cloud Foundation

General Information:
- Primarily works office hours Monday through Friday; however subject to working at other times for certain projects special events and meetings overtime weekends and emergency calls back to work as needed to keep systems operational.
- Valid Drivers License and the ability to qualify for City driving permit. This position will be required to drive on the Airport campus to perform job responsibilities.
- Federal background check is required. Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
- The salary range for this position is $103203 - $114670 annually.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Citys Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
