Heating Plant Chief 3Rd Class
Job Summary
SUMMARY
The 3rd Class Heating Plant Chief manages a High Temp Hot Water Central Heating Plant and Supervises a team of five Stationary Engineers who work a rotating 12hr shift pattern.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People Leadership
Demonstrates strong competent leadership for a multi-trade team guiding members to reach their full potential and meet performance objectives in support of our corporate goals. Specifically these responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Full involvement with recruiting talent.
- Provides mentoring coaching and guidance to all team members.
- Objectively recommends compensation adjustments.
- Manages all aspects of performance
- Manage a five (5) man shift team during the heating season and summer shutdown.
- Manage 24/7 coverage for the plant during the heating season.
- Oversee water treatment in closed loop heating systems across the site.
Transportation Services
- Monitors and enforces compliance to all internal and external requirements.
- Conducts field inspections job observations audits and other types of reviews to monitor compliance to requirements and to identify risks.
- Communicates observations non-compliance and risks to stakeholders and provides and implements corrective and preventative measures to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
- Prepares and submits compliance reports.
Safety and Compliance
- Checks the technical condition of the equipment prior to operation.
- In the event of accident informs immediately according to Company procedure.
- Follows Company procedures to ensure safe environment personal safety and safety of others.
- Ensure regulatory equipment inspections with service providers to ensure compliance with TSSA.
- Schedule and attend insurance inspections on safety valves heat exchangers air receivers and expansion tanks across the site.
- Work with controls engineers and shift team to troubleshoot system faults.
- Manage inspections and service contractors for Thermal Fluid Boilers.
Communication / Training
- Develops and delivers the training sessions to Stationery Engineers on the client site.
- Develops communication sessions on regulatory changes.
Analysis
- Ensure boiler combustion analysis is completed annually on both oil and gas.
Future Work and Budget Estimations
- To project future work and assist Property manager with budget estimations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- 3-5 years of experience at the Class 3 level.
- 5 years in managerial and training capacity.
- Must have training in lockout tagout and PPE and ensure its use.
- Training in both confined space and working at heights.
- The incumbent must have significant knowledge of heating plant operations equipment and systems. This includes a familiarity with the operating characteristics of boilers burners generators water pumps oil pumps valves expansion joints fans and distribution systems.
- A knowledge of computer and software programs including building management systems is essential to deliver specific environmental requirements.
- A working knowledge of closed loop water and glycol systems and the chemical treatment thereof.
- Hands on experience with power tools and PPE requirements.
- This employee must have the skills needed to start up and shut down oil and gas fired boilers and generators adjust controls that regulate output perform preventive maintenance and on occasion remove and replace parts.
- Troubleshooting activities demand analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of administrative practices are needed to guide others with work orders documents and time keeping.
- To compile operational data.
- The plant Chief shall be physically fit able to climb ladders stair wells and boilers with a harness.
- Manual dexterity is required.
- Written communication skill is needed to record information in a written shift log and to prepare reports complete various forms time sheets.
- Verbal communication is required to describe mechanical problems to colleagues and contractors.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Must hold a current 3rd Class Stationary Engineers Certificate for Ontario.
