Overall Scope:

Reporting to the Materials Manager the Materials Handling Supervisor oversees the movement organization and distribution of materials and supplies from the inventory storage area through the delivery of those materials and supplies to the production work areas within the plant ensuring efficient workflow and space utilization. The ideal candidate will have experience in material handling within a manufacturing environment and possess strong attention to detail.


Responsibilities:



Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of all material handlers. Train team load unload and transport materials within the facility using tuggers and other material handling equipment.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure alignment with production schedules.
Work closely with Materials Manager and operational leadership to ensure that the appropriate materials and supplies are delivered to the correct production area in a timely and efficient manner.
Provide timely feedback to Plant Manager and operational leadership on issues or concerns impacting production or execution items.
Coordinate with Warehouse personnel to ensure that the correct materials are delivered to production areas in a timely and efficient manner.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for material handling and inventory management to maintain efficient processes.
Establish delivery processes and locators for any new items being released to the production environment.
Identify areas for process improvement and implement initiatives to streamline material handling operations reduce costs and increase efficiency.
Evaluate reported line down items to quickly resolve issues.
Organize and store materials in designated areas ensuring proper identification and labeling to maintain inventory accuracy.
Monitor stock levels and report discrepancies to the Materials Manager.
Manage annual physical inventory activities.
Assist in conducting regular inventory counts and cycle checks of WIP to ensure accurate stock levels.
Record and track material movements using the companys ERP system.
Report any quality or damage concerns to the appropriate department.
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on material handling equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.
Participate in regular safety training and equipment inspections.
Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the Safety department.


Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates with an associates degree or higher in logistics supply chain management or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

3 years of prior lead/supervisor work experience in a receiving materials or warehouse capacity
5 years of experience in a high volume manufacturing production environment

Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of materials/warehouse inventory best practices and procedures
Working knowledge with warehouse management systems
Working knowledge of 5S Lean and Kaizen methodologies and best practices
Effective team development and project supervision and delegation skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Established history creating a culture of engaged employees
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including questioning/listening skills- with ability to determine facts about situations
High level of attention and effective problem-solving skills
Good analytical ability and ability to follow up required
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook Excel and Word
ERP systems preferred Oracle

Physical Requirements:

Safety Awareness: Being aware of safety protocols and ensuring compliance is crucial.
Lifting and Carrying: Materials handling supervisors occasionally need to lift and carry heavy objects such as boxes pallets or equipment.
Standing and Walking: Supervisors spend a significant amount of time on their feet overseeing operations inspecting inventory and coordinating tasks. Strength and stamina are essential.
Bending and Stooping: They may need to bend stoop or crouch to access lower shelves inspect materials or perform maintenance on equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Handling tools operating machinery and managing inventory require good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Visual Acuity: Supervisors must be able to read labels monitor inventory levels and assess safety conditions.
