TITLE FUNDED- THIS POSITION IS FOR THE 2026/2027 SY ONLY

The Reading Intervention Specialist is a reading-endorsed teacher of reading who works specifically with K-8 students who require strategic and intensive intervention. The focus of the intervention specialist is to develop a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in reading. The goal of the intervention specialist is to ensure that the students are able to master grade-level standards and curriculum by instructing students not meeting state reading standards.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • BachelorsDegree in Education Masters Degree preferred
  • Arizona Standard Professional TeachingCertificate
  • ReadingEndorsement Required
  • Experienceteaching K-8 students (three to five years of experience preferred)
  • Experience working with individual teachers and site-based teams
  • Experienceand training in administering assessments and analyzing data to drive instruction
  • Aproven track record of instructingdiverse learners including English Language Learners and SpecialEducation students in the area of reading

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Professional Knowledge

  • Demonstratesknowledge and understanding of Scientifically Based Reading Research (SBRR) and Scientifically Based Reading Instruction (SBRI) specificallyrelated to K-8 students.

  • Understands the purpose and components of core reading programs supplemental materials and intervention programs.

  • Understandshow to collaboratively plan with K-8 staff to effectively use andimplement adopted core reading program supplemental materials andintervention programs.

  • Understands direct explicit systematic reading instruction that is aligned with SBRR.

  • Understandsand interprets assessment data such as DIBELS TerraNova Galileo and AIMS as well as running records and other informal assessment data toguide instructional decisions and flexible student grouping.

  • Understandshow to use technology for instructional planning i.e. creating reportsand using data to plan lessons.

Instructional Practice

  • Use instructionaldecisions that are based on data analysis

  • Effectivelyuse direct explicit systematic reading instruction that is aligned withSBRR.

  • Designeffective intervention lessons.

  • Usepublished SBRR intervention programs from the districts Menu of Services to accelerate student learning.

  • Continuouslymonitor the progress of students receiving intervention services in order to adjust instructional practice and student grouping.

  • Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers regarding alignment between classroom instruction and intervention.

  • Use technologyfor planning instruction and assessment analysis

  • IntegrateSheltered Instruction Observation Protocolstrategies in small-group instruction

Professional Responsibilities

  • AttendDistrict and school site-sponsored trainings

  • Trainparaprofessionals in effective instructional practice and the components of the intervention program.

  • Supportthe site-level School-Wide Plan through facilitation and/or participation at in-services grade-level team meetings and staff meetings.

  • Collaboratewith classroom teachers coaches and contracted consultants.

  • Preparemonthly progress report(s).

  • Performother duties as assigned.
