The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the facilitys risk management and patient safety programs. The Risk Manager is responsible for identifying evaluating and reducing risks to residents staff and the organization. This position works closely with leadership to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and to promote a culture of safety quality improvement and accountability throughout the facility.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Functions
- Develop implement and maintain the facilitys risk management program.
- Monitor facility practices to ensure compliance with federal state and local regulations including standards established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
- Serve as a resource to leadership and department managers regarding risk management issues.
- Participate in facility surveys conducted by regulatory agencies and assist in responding to findings and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain records and documentation related to incidents investigations and risk management activities.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings as necessary to address risk-related concerns.
Incident and Event Management
- Oversee the facility-wide incident and accident reporting system.
- Review investigate and document all reported incidents and adverse events.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for significant or serious events.
- Identify contributing factors and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure timely reporting of incidents according to facility policy and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure appropriate communication and disclosure to residents and families when required.
Staff Development Functions:
- Assist in the development planning scheduling and conducting of timely in service training the IDT regarding assessment skills and techniques for completing the MDS. Such training would include but not be limited to interviewing residents rehabilitation principles psychotropic drugs care plan documentation and functions etc.
- Attend continuing education programs designed to keep abreast of changes in your profession as well as to maintain your license.
Staff Education Functions
- Develop and provide training programs related to risk prevention abuse recognition resident safety and regulatory compliance.
- Educate staff on proper incident reporting procedures. Assist department heads in implementing safety initiatives and best practices.04/04/2026
- Participate in in-service training programs and continuing education to remain current with regulatory and risk management practices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited Nursing school or possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience
- Must possess a current unencumbered active license to practice as a RN in this state.
- At least one (1) year experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing or as a staff nurse in a health care facility. Experience in long-term care required.
