Purpose of Job | Weakley County Schools understands that the classroom teacher is the key factor in student success. For an ESL student the job is even more important. This person serves as a bridge between the student and academics. They should plan organize and implement an appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages students to fulfill their academic potential while understanding and learning the students own cultural background and needs. | ||
Qualifications | Experience in the area assigned preferred Active Tennessee teaching license with ESL endorsement Ability to drive from school to school in personal vehicle (district will reimburse mileage costs) | ||
Job Description | Must be fluent and competent in the four domains of language assessed by the English Language Proficiency Assessment: reading writing speaking and listening. Know and understand language acquisition and appropriate content area curriculum and use a wide array of teaching methods strategies and techniques for the advancement of student learning. Screen new students and otherwise assist with the identification of English language learners using appropriate assessment instruments. Assist in the scheduling of students for ESL classes. Plan and implement ESL instruction using techniques and materials appropriate to English language learners. Monitor student performance in ESL classes and adjust instruction as needed. Monitor the progress of English language learners in regular education classes. Communicate and plan with regular education teachers concerning English learners abilities and needs. Assist regular education teachers in developing teaching strategies appropriate to English language learners. Attend staff development appropriate to job assignment. Assist in providing staff development opportunities for regular education teachers. Write monitor and update ILPs. Assist students in understanding American culture and encourages all students to understand other cultures. Provide assistance to students and parents when adjustment or academic problems arise. Maintain accurate records on all ESL students in school program. | ||
Essential Functions or Duties | Maintain consistent predictable attendance and punctuality including participation in required meetings trainings and professional development Perform all duties with integrity professionalism accountability and in compliance with all school district state and federal laws/policies. Interact professionally and effectively with students parents/guardians coworkers administrators and members of the public. Maintain appropriate confidentiality of student personnel and district information. Follow all safety procedures and report hazards incidents or unsafe conditions in a timely manner. Use district equipment technology and resources appropriately and in support of assigned duties. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or administrators. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. | ||
Physical Demands | This job may require lifting objects that exceed 20 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: Pushing and/or pulling Stooping and/or kneeling Reaching Talking Hearing Seeing This job will require driving from school to school with mileage reimbursements. | ||
