Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Sales Team Manager to help lead our Direct Store Delivery (DSD) / Route Sales this role you will partner closely with the Sales Team Manager to drive performance support daily operations and develop a high-performing sales team across a multi-state territory.
This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments enjoys mentoring others and is comfortable stepping in to support field operations when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Lead coach and motivate Route Sales/DSD Representatives and Supervisors
Assist in hiring training and ongoing development of team members
Partner with the Sales Team Manager to execute sales strategies and track performance
Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and customers
Resolve customer issues staffing challenges and operational concerns
Support field operations including covering routes during absences
Assist with product resets and coordination of off-site warehouse operations
Communicate effectively with suppliers and corporate partners
Help organize and support corporate and regional sales meetings
Ensure warehouse organization inventory accuracy and timely deliveries
Contribute to continuous improvement of sales processes and team efficiency
Qualifications
Required: Direct Store Delivery (DSD) or Route Sales experience
Strong leadership coaching and team development skills
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Outlook etc.)
Comfortable operating a medium-duty box truck (20 ft)
Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
Experience & Education
8 12 years of experience in DSD route sales or retail (preferred)
3 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience (preferred)
Associate degree in Business or related field (Bachelors preferred)
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs as needed
Comfortable working in non-climate-controlled environments
Ability to load/unload trucks and organize warehouse inventory
Ability to safely enter/exit delivery vehicles
Territory & Travel
Multi-state territory coverage (primarily Southeast with additional travel as needed)
Frequent travel required (35 45%) including overnight stays
