Assistant Sales Team Manager (DSD / Route Sales)
Location: Tampa Bay Area FL (Preferred)
Travel: 35 45% (overnight travel required)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Sales Team Manager to help lead our Direct Store Delivery (DSD) / Route Sales this role you will partner closely with the Sales Team Manager to drive performance support daily operations and develop a high-performing sales team across a multi-state territory.
This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments enjoys mentoring others and is comfortable stepping in to support field operations when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead coach and motivate Route Sales/DSD Representatives and Supervisors
- Assist in hiring training and ongoing development of team members
- Partner with the Sales Team Manager to execute sales strategies and track performance
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and customers
- Resolve customer issues staffing challenges and operational concerns
- Support field operations including covering routes during absences
- Assist with product resets and coordination of off-site warehouse operations
- Communicate effectively with suppliers and corporate partners
- Help organize and support corporate and regional sales meetings
- Ensure warehouse organization inventory accuracy and timely deliveries
- Contribute to continuous improvement of sales processes and team efficiency
Qualifications
- Required: Direct Store Delivery (DSD) or Route Sales experience
- Strong leadership coaching and team development skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Outlook etc.)
- Comfortable operating a medium-duty box truck (20 ft)
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
Experience & Education
- 8 12 years of experience in DSD route sales or retail (preferred)
- 3 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience (preferred)
- Associate degree in Business or related field (Bachelors preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs as needed
- Comfortable working in non-climate-controlled environments
- Ability to load/unload trucks and organize warehouse inventory
- Ability to safely enter/exit delivery vehicles
Territory & Travel
- Multi-state territory coverage (primarily Southeast with additional travel as needed)
- Frequent travel required (35 45%) including overnight stays
