POSITION SPECIFICS
We are searching for motivated and talented Software Engineer join our Comprehensive Software Solutions (CSS) Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. CSS applies a wide variety of software concepts techniques and languages to solve challenging problems for ARLs sponsors as well as internally for ARL needs.
ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.
You will:
- Work closely with a team to develop applications to best fit project needs
- Maintain version tracking and code documentation
- Support field testing to include remote or in person troubleshooting of software system
- Rigorously test application and write unit tests if required for project
Required skills/experience areas include:
- Programming in C/C C# Java or Python
- Use of version tracking tools Jira Git
- Creativity in problem solving
- Strong written oral and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
Preferred skills/experience areas include:
- A degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- Embedded software development
- Graphical user interface development
- Current eligibility for access to classified information at the TS/SCI level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility if required
Your working location will be fully on-site located in State College PA. This position may also require periodic travel to remote locations in support of testing.

If filled as Research and Development Engineer - Intermediate Professional this position requires: Bachelors Degree - Engineering or Science 2 years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None If filled as Research and Development Engineer - Professional this position requires: Bachelors Degree - Engineering or Science No prior relevant work experience required Required Certifications: NoneARLs purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific engineering and technology problems in support of the Navy the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intel Community (IC).

SALARY & BENEFITS
