DTU invites applications for postdoc positionswithin DTUs Division for Climate and Energy Policy at DTU Management Department of Technology Management and Economics.

The division is an interdisciplinary research unit that carries out research related to climate and energy economics resilience adaptation and mitigation pathways. Our activities within the field of climate risk management integrate domain expertise from economics climate and extreme event modelling and data science. Weoffer an excellent research environment with international staff postdocs and PhD students.

Our research in climate economics and risk management aims to facilitate climate-resilient decision-making. The objective is to promote sustainable development by reducing the impacts and optimizing benefits across population groups regions sectors and ecosystems that are potentially affected by the changing climate.

Climate risk management requires diverse qualitative and quantitative approaches including the development of new evidence-based models and loss and damage functions varying across natural surroundings and societal frameworks. The consequences of extreme climate eventsare manifold cascading and driving credit market insurance and liquidity risks as well as social risks.

We offer postdoc positions within each of the following areas:

  1. Climate Economics: Estimating social and economic impactsrelated to climate change and evaluatingadaptation and mitigation solutions. Tasks include:
    • Development and application of methods for measuring social dimensions of climate change including impacts on the well-being of people risk perceptions adaptative capacities
    • Assessing equity and fairness dimensions of impacts and policies
    • Assing impacts on property markets and insurance related issues
  2. Climate Risk Modelling: Estimating the likelihood severity and spatialdistribution of climate risks through the integration of regional climate projections spatial impact and damage models advanced statistical analyses and machine learning. Tasks include:
    • Development of new methods models and data-driven emulators for propagating cascading climate risk and uncertainty from extreme and unprecedented events along complex impact chains
    • Assessing the impact of climate extremes on energy and water supply and other critical infrastructure systems

Responsibilities and qualifications
Climate modelling and climate economics are seen as key contributions when identifying climate mitigation and adaptation policies and regulations to tackle the short- and long-term impacts of climate change taking uncertainties and risks into account. Therefore candidates with documented interdisciplinary experience will be given priority.

The positions are linked to new and ongoing projects focusing on economic assessment of climate change risks in the face of extreme events led by Professor Martin Drews and Professor Kirsten Halsnæs funded by Danish and international sources and carried out in collaboration with national and international partners.

The successful candidates will be part of a dedicated team effort and are expected to be responsible for specific tasks related to the above. The successful candidates are also expected to lead the development of scientific papers related to the research carried out and potentially co-supervise associated students at the bachelor and master level.

Eligible candidates will have:

  • A PhD degree at the time of employment
  • Published papers and/or PhD thesis within the above-mentioned focus areas.
  • Experience in working with big data in relevant fields e.g. register data data from climate and impact models (e.g. flood models) in native file formats economic damage cost models.
  • Expertise in developing complex codes for explorative data analysis
  • Experience in setting up and running existing models within the above-mentioned focus areas will be considered an advantage.
  • Flexibility enthusiasm responsibility team spirit and excellent collaboration skills
  • Strong oral and written skills in Danish and English

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The employment period is one year for one of the positions and three years for the other two. Starting: 1 August or 1 September 2026 or after mutual agreement.
