Position Summary
Under the direction of the Corporate Controller Canada the Regional Manager of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the accounting team for assigned locations within Canada. This position will support the continued growth of the organization by leading the month-end close process addressing technical accounting matters (including POC accounting) ensuring compliance with GAAP and maintaining strong internal controls. The ideal candidate has a public accounting/private company mix of experience is comfortable in a hands-on leadership role and thrives on problem solving rather than simply escalating issues. This role manages partners closely with operations to support revenue recognition cost control and profitability.
Responsibilities:
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Manage revenue recognition using Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting
- Lead the monthly quarterly and annual close processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and/or review journal entries account reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Assist with treasury function for assigned locations
POC & Project Accounting
- Monitor project/job costs budgets billings and margins
- Prepare POC calculations forecasting and contract profitability
- Partner with operations and project managers to validate estimates progress and cost-to-complete
- Identify and explain variances between actual results and forecasts
Leadership & Collaboration
- Manage mentor and develop accounting staff
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations billing payroll and finance teams
- Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making
- Collaborate with Operations FP&A and IT to support financial reporting and process improvement initiatives
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards tax regulations and internal policies
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes
- Support external audits and coordinate with auditors as required
Systems & Process Improvement
- Optimize accounting processes systems and workflows for efficiency and accuracy
- Support ERP/accounting system implementations or upgrades
- Drive continuous improvement in reporting controls and scalability
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent experience and minimum 7 years of experience.
- CPA required.
- Prior experience in a POC accounting role
- Prior management experience ideally with direct oversight of staff.
- High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to research analyze and document positions under GAAP.
