Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregons fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

We are hiring for one full-time permanent position located in Central Point Oregon.

What you will do:

In this position you will conduct surveys associated with conservation plan implementation for multiple species. The projects major activities include:

  • Surveying selected streams to count naturally spawning salmon and steelhead

  • Conducting snorkel counts and/or electro-fishing estimates of juvenile salmonids in coastal streams

  • Monitoring upstream and downstream fish traps

  • Conducting field surveys to assess the condition of stream habitat

You will also be responsible for quality control of the information writing summaries of sampling results maintaining field gear and equipment coordinating with ODFW district staff and requesting permission from private landowners to access sample sites.

NOTE: This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board to be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however we are seeking applicants with the following experience or skills. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with these skills and background:

  • Experience collecting and recording biological data

  • Experience conducting biological field surveys

  • Experience identifying and enumerating salmonids

  • Maintain and repair fish sampling gear and equipment

  • Experience rowing boats on whitewater rivers

  • Anyone who has or is in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%
