Job Summary

Flagship Labs 101 (FL101) is a Flagship Pioneering NewCo focused on discovering and developing novel therapeutics by uncovering previously inaccessible biology at the interface of interacting cells with an emphasis on identifying first-in-class targets that emerge from cellcell interactions. FL101 is seeking a highly motivated co-op student to support the development and application of a next-generation platform for mapping functional cellcell interactions using genetic perturbations and single-cell sequencing. The co-op will contribute to executing CRISPR-based screens in co-culture systems enabling high-resolution barcode-level tracking of donorreceiver interactions and helping to generate and interpret datasets that link interacting cell populations. This role will also support the application of the platform in disease-focused programs by assisting with screen optimization sample processing for single-cell sequencing and follow-up validation of candidate targets.

Cell contact is an underexplored frontier in disease biology. This is an opportunity to explore the causal mechanisms behind failures in cell communication and the pathology that results.

How you will make an impact

  • Independently conduct experiments analyze data and troubleshoot issues
  • Edit genes of interest using the CRISPR/Cas9 system
  • Apply high throughput genetic screening and single cell sequencing to discover and validate novel therapeutic targets
  • Culture immortalized and primary human cells
  • Performin vitrocell assays including multicolor flow cytometry immunofluorescence qPCR western blot and co-culture assays
  • Communicate findings to the research team including by presenting at team meetings
  • Maintain accurate detailed and up-to-date experimental records in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in biology biochemistry or a related field
  • Prior completion of at least one co-op rotation in the fields of cell or molecular biology
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique
  • Experience with basic molecular biology and pipetting technique
  • Prior experience with flow cytometry is preferred
  • Interest in CRISPR functional genomics and high throughput methodologies is a plus

The salary range for this role is $25 - $35. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors including a candidates qualifications skills competencies and experience. FL101 currently offers healthcare coverage annual incentive program retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits.
