Job Summary

The Behavioral Health (BH) Counselor is responsible for the development and administrative supervision of a multi-disciplinary mental health and substance abuse care team at their service location. The position coordinates all service and activities of serves as a direct serve provider and is responsible for outpatient assessment diagnostic services treatment and referrals for crisis intervention and other referral services. The BH Coordinator maintains a well-functioning balance of direct clinical services and administrative activities. The Behavioral Health Coordinator is under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Director. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Provides direction and oversight to the operation of the assigned service location and staff in alignment with NATIVE HEALTHs Misson and strategic plan.

2. Coordinates services with another agency Behavioral Health Coordinators and staff. Promotes the healthcare home mission in all aspects of service delivery.

3. Provides comprehensive behavioral health care including prevention diagnosis treatment and follow-up to patients under the scope of general mental health and substance abuse practice. 

4. Provides accurate and timely documentation billing and program audit support.

5. Actively participates in case staffing meetings and peer review sessions. 

6. Collaborates with the care team and other internal and external health care providers for shared patients to facilitate patient care and follow-up.

7. Participates in networking activities to help disseminate information about services. 

8. Support the organization as needed. 


Qualifications :

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Masters degree in social work or counseling from an accredited program or related disciplines is required.
  2. Active and unrestricted AZBBHE licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is required. 
  3. Three years of specialized experience in mental health and/or substance abuse with diverse populations is required. Experience working with underserved populations is preferred. 
  4. Two years of prior supervisory experience related to behavioral health is strongly preferred.
  5. Behavioral Health Board clinical supervisor training completed and up to date is strongly preferred.  
  6. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred. Fluency evaluation is required. 
  7. Possess valid current and unrestricted Arizona drivers license with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years.  Must maintain a valid AZ driver license during employment.  Must be insurable by the NATIVE HEALTH liability auto policy.
  8. Must present a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to employment.
  9. Must pass alcohol/substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during the course of employment.
  10. Must have an updated Immunization (IZ) Record.
  11. Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin report upon employment and provide an update annually.
  12. Must obtain a CPR and First Aid Card within ninety (90) calendar days of employment and maintain valid updated training during employment.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of principles techniques and trends in counseling psychotherapy clinical case management and various treatment modalities.
  2. Knowledge of principles and techniques of mental health education prevention and crisis intervention.
  3. Ability to provide professional leadership and direction to a care team. 
  4. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to deliver strong clinical services to individuals families and groups.
  6. Knowledge and competence in supporting the cultural social and economic backgrounds of a diverse service population with traditionally underserved needs.
  7. Must be able to work with confidential material without betraying the trust of patients families or the agency in accordance with HIPPA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations as well as agency policies.     
  8. Open to change and willing to lead change within the organization.
  9. Professional integrity; excellent work ethic. 
  10. Able to manage competing priorities; excellent organizational skills and good time management.
  11. Ability to provide professionally written or oral report and evaluations concerning program activities accomplishments goals and objectives.
  12. Enhance and promote the core values and mission of NATIVE HEALTH.
  13. Exercise utmost discretion diplomacy and tact in customer transactions.
  14. Participate on NATIVE HEALTH committees and workgroups as assigned.  
  15. Knowledge of existing social and behavioral health resources available for patient care.
  16. Capable of making independent professional judgements and recommendations for medial social and psychosocial intervention.
  17. Proficient with computer-based applications such as MS Office Adobe and electric health record (EHR).
