CBC News seeks a creative journalist to join our Weekend Morning team as Rundown Producer. This is a great opportunity to join CBC News Network Canadas top breaking news channel and livestream.

In this key role you help create morning news programming prioritizing live breaking and developing news that people across Canada need to know. You manage the lineup map out and produce various presentation elements and co-ordinate with the executive and senior producers writers producers and technical teams to craft a compelling visual audience

experience.

Youre a creative and critical thinker with a strong editorial vision and an audience-first mindset. You passionately pitch engaging story ideas bringing your unique experiences and perspectives to the table. You look for new ways to engage the diversity of the audience staying curious and open to new ideas opinions and viewpoints.

You have a clear understanding of CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices and how it guides our work. Youre also a confident programmer who experiments with different kinds of story treatments allowing for a range of content pace and tone.

In this collaborative environment you must have excellent communication skills a proven ability to juggle multiple stories and tasks and a passion for guiding and mentoring others. You work well with others and support journalists with constructive feedback.

Based in Toronto this is a permanent full-time position including Saturdays and Sundays which are scheduled from 3:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Key tasks:

Plan assign and co-ordinate program ideas concepts and story angles including introscopy voiceovers video editing and headlines.

Respond to breaking news and instantly adapt and reconstruct lineups.

Direct and delegate assignments across editorial production and technical lines.

In collaboration with the senior producer determine the style pace and format of the programming; the order and importance of various elements of the programming.

Vet content as required according to best practices and the CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Guide and assist writers with story focus and visual elements.

Keep up with international national and local news developments.

Give and receive constructive feedback.

Relevant skills and experience:

Minimum of five years of recent relevant experience in a daily live news environment.

Highly developed production skills including strong ability to produce a variety of

program formats. Superior eye and ear for pacing tone and presentation.

Superior leadership and coaching skills with ability to mentor and encourage

creativity.

Experience in pitching stories and translating those ideas into on-air segments.

Excellent writing vetting and production skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Creative use of video both live and non-live in programming.

Superior news judgment under tight deadlines.

In-depth knowledge of Canadian and international news and current affairs.

A university degree or equivalent.

Knowledge of and experience working with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Experience using Vizrt iNews and Media Central.

Familiar with Ross OverDrive Automation workflows.

Must be able to solve problems quickly independently and in-group discussions.

Ability to perform and willingness to learn other producer roles in the newsroom.

Embraces change and experimentation.

Lives and promotes the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.

Strong knowledge and understanding of and/or connection to underrepresented communities across Canada.

Ability to work in a high pressure environment.

Experience in a live control room and taking programming to air is an asset.

Flexibility to work different shifts including early mornings nights and holidays to respond to the demands of a live programming cycle.
