Job Summary

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Superintendents General Foremen

Functional Areas of Responsibility

  • Participate in operational strategic planning
  • Manage and organize all aspects of a division very large project or multiple projects
  • Competency in 4 or more work disciplines (civil structural steel fixed equipment piping I&E soft craft etc.)
  • Manage large salaried staffs
  • Efficiently manage resource utilization across multiple projects
  • Support construction equipment buy/rent/sell analysis

  • Productivity performance and improvement

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Planning

  • Leverage resources across multiple projects to enhance construction efficiencies in each project.
  • Review the nature and scope of the project(s) the materials and equipment to be utilized and manpower requirements for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Along with Project Managers plan the physical layout of the jobsite(s) to use effectively all available space initiate startup activities which include site security preparations placement of trailers utility hookups storage space etc.
  • Ensure development of quality Work Plans.
  • Along with the project management establish procedures for the ordering of self-perform materials supplies and small tools from approved suppliers.
  • Participate in buy/rent/sell decisions for capital equipment.
  • Participate in long-term labor resource need forecasting.

Cost Performance

  • Responsible to meet or exceed bid productivity and cost. Take corrective action to improve productivity when labor costs exceed expected norms.
  • Use understanding of production rates to aid in review of bid estimates and project change orders.
  • Ensure Superintendents develop innovative methods for increasing efficiency productivity and profitability in their particular operation and to provide feedback and coaching on how the work is proceeding.
  • Ensure staff is trained and compliant with Performance Reporting.

Scheduling

  • Responsible to complete project milestones on or before contract requirements.
  • Assist in the development of conceptual and baseline schedule for projects
  • Responsible for selection of equipment for projects. Direct priority of operations allocation of equipment and materials for field supervision.
  • Ensure detailed construction planning is performed by staff (e.g. 3 week and general construction plans).
  • Regularly review project planning and schedule performance.

Quality Management

  • Responsible overall quality construction performance.
  • Ensure all field construction work conforms to quality plans.
  • Supervise or assign staff as appropriate to supervise all activities performed on the jobsite regardless of the day or time of performance of the work.

Relationships

  • Has the ability to manage large staffs and projects coordinating operations on multiple projects. Organize the staff into an effectively coordinated working unit promoting principles of learning career advancement and coaching in a motivating atmosphere.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with customer representatives engineers consulting firms and other parties. Attempt to resolve problems at the lowest practical level through direct negotiations with concerned individuals.
  • Foster and promote the training and development of subordinates through various on-the-job training opportunities company-sponsored training programs and outside learning opportunities such as college courses trade seminars and classroom instruction
  • Ability to work with leadership on organizational strategies.

Safety

  • Responsible for accident- and incident-free execution of all work activities
  • Ensure compliance with the companys Safety & Health policies.

Technical

  • Minimum two year Associates degree
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance in resolving day-to-day construction problems. Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and work quality.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local laws ordinances and codes relating to construction activities. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures including employment terminations compensation etc.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Ability to sell the capabilities of self and of Austin to potential customers. Ability to present Austins value proposition to prospective customers to grow revenue.
  • Ensure successful project completion.
  • Ensure compliance with staff Daily Reporting and Performance Reporting
