Structural Steel Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Structural Steel Estimator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection with proven expertise in preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial industrial and infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical role in our pre-construction phase working closely with project managers engineers detailers and clients to ensure competitive and profitable project bids.

As a Structural Steel Estimator you will be responsible for analyzing project specifications drawings and requirements to develop comprehensive cost estimates that encompass materials labor equipment and project timelines. Your expertise will directly influence our companys success in securing new projects and maintaining our reputation for accuracy and reliability in the structural steel industry.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Bid Preparation

• Review and analyze architectural and structural drawings specifications and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements
• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects ranging from small-scale commercial buildings to large industrial facilities
• Perform material takeoffs using Tekla Structures and other industry-standard software to quantify steel tonnage connection materials and miscellaneous components
• Calculate labor hours required for fabrication surface preparation painting and field erection activities
• Develop comprehensive bid packages including cost breakdowns project schedules and scope clarifications
• Prepare and submit competitive proposals within specified deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

Technical Analysis & Engineering Support

• Utilize Tekla Structures software to create preliminary 3D models for complex connections and structural systems to verify constructability and optimize estimates
• Apply AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction)
