The Tŝilhqotin National Government is based in Williams Lake British Columbia serving six communities including ʔEsdilagh Tletinqox Tlesqox Tŝideldel Xeni Gwetin and Yuneŝitin. The Tŝilhqotin National Governments mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqotin peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqotin philosophy values experience and culture.

The Radio Operations Lead is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Tŝilhqotin Radio Station. They are responsible for overseeing the administrative and business functions of the radio station. This includes ensuring content is broadcasted in each of the six Tsilhqotin communities and the Radio App


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Tŝilhqotin Radio Station ensuring smooth and efficient broadcasting activities
  • Plan organize direct control and evaluate the operations of the Tŝilhqotin Radio providing guidance and oversight to staff
  • Supervise station programming and scheduling; formulate and approve promotional campaigns and the introduction of new programs
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with local organizations advertisers and other radio/TV stations to support collaboration and maximize resources
  • Ensure the Tŝilhqotin Radio meets the terms of its broadcasting license; oversee and manage all official correspondence with licensing and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain and monitor broadcast activities to ensure compliance with the hours indicated in the stations license
  • Supervise all staff including production and technical teams to support performance accountability and overall station success
  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy of logs (music program and studio)
  • Supervise the sharing of information to the public and the promotion of the radio station including participating in public speaking as required
  • Support and oversee revenue and funding development by identifying opportunities in advertising fundraising events grants and other initiatives
  • Assist in the development of the annual budget and oversee the administration of the operating budget
  • Oversee and contribute to reporting requirements as required by funders
  • Provide day-to-day supervision direction and support to all staff and volunteers


Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and experience working within a radio station preferably at a management level
  • Knowledge of Tsilhqotin Culture values and language
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent ability to train and motivate personnel
  • Cooperative team oriented and flexible
  • Computer proficiency
  • Knowledge of the Radio-Communications Act & Regulations
  • Understanding of Broadcast systems software
  • Familiarity with the difference between a commercial radio station and a community radio station
  • Sufficient knowledge of on-air techniques and ability to work with staff and volunteers to improve their on-air performance


Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required
