Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge skills and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Management Preferences:
Documented knowledge of internal and/or external services available to offenders.
Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.
Documented knowledge of case management practices or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
Salary Grade & Salary Range: NC08 - $39244.00 - $68679.00

Reporting to the Programs Director I employees in this class provide programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
Develop implement and maintain one or more major and broad programs for offenders in a minimum custody prison facility
Supervise program areas which consist of offender classification; correctional programs (work release
incentive wage study release home leave adult basic education volunteer programs religion and recreation); and supportive counseling.
Work with external community agencies to enrich programs establish new programs and to conduct home leave and work release investigations.
Review and monitor the effectiveness of community volunteer workers assigned to programs activities and at times supervise subordinate staff Able to coordinate program activities with custody staff
Communicate effectively both orally and written form during presentations and completing reports and/or managing documents and records for audit and compliance purposes
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate will work Monday Friday 8am 5pm. Hours may vary at times depending on the business needs of the facility.
Dan River Prison Work Farm is in Blanch NC. The facilitysits on a 187.5-acre site in the north-central area of Caswell County andhouses felon and misdemeanant minimum custody adult male offenders. Work assignments include food service maintenance janitorial and other institutional jobs. Other assignments include maintenance work at Caswell Correctional Center and the offender construction program.

Bachelors degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
