Description of Work
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is hiring Correctional Officers to maintain safety security and supervision within state correctional facilities. This position offers paid training stable employment and advancement opportunities within public safety.Duties Include:
- Maintain safety custody and supervision of offenders
- Conduct searches of offenders visitors cells and facility areas for contraband
- Monitor offender activity in person and through surveillance systems
- Maintain offender counts housing assignments and required records
- Escort offenders within and outside the facility
- Supervise offender work assignments
- Identify and report behavioral medical or safety concerns

To be considered for a Correctional Officer position ALL applicants must:
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid drivers license
Hires may be eligible for a $3000 Sign on Bonus.

Correctional Officer I- Minimum Custody
Offenders require limited supervision and may leave cells at certain times of the day.
Salary Range: $32639 -$57117
Salary Grade: NC05
Correctional Officer II- Medium Custody
Offenders require a moderate level of supervision.
Salary Range: $34270 - $59973
Salary Grade: NC06
Correctional Officer III- Close Custody
Offenders require constant supervision and have heavily controlled movement.
Salary Range: $35984 - 62971
Salary Grade: NC07
Work Schedule Information
Employees must be able to work any shift including rotating fixed shift or split shift. All shifts may include days nights weekends holidays and mandatory overtime as required.

Trainee Progression Candidate Consideration
If fully qualified applicants are unavailable candidates may be considered for trainee appointments. Trainee salaries may begin below the posted range and increase as minimum qualifications are obtained in accordance with State policy.
Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT)
All new hires must complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT). This entails a required overnight weekday stay at training facility. Room and board is provided. Transportation is available upon request.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
