Part Time Monday thru Friday between the hours of 9:00 am 3:00 pm 4 hours per day

GENERALPURPOSE
Performsa variety of routine administrative andcomplex clerical duties as needed to expedite the service delivery of theBuilding and Community Development Departments.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Respondsto inquiries received in person telephone and through email.
Receivesreviews and processes building permit land use permit and encroachmentpermit applications.
Providescustomer service to applicants homeowners architects engineers andcontractors.
Managesthe issuance of certificate of occupancies.
Schedulesinspections as requested by contractors and homeowners.
Coordinatesutility approvals with utility companies.
Routesplans to appropriate departments for review.
Trackspermit status through approval issuance and inspection phases.
Assessfees according to established requirements.
Maintainscomputerized data.
Maintainsaccurate records.
Performsrelated functions as required.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Otherduties as assigned.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from high school or equivalentGED.
B. One to three years of responsible experiencerelated to the essential functions of above duties.
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of modern officepractices and procedures; of grammar spelling and punctuation; of modernfiling systems related to alphabetical and numeric files; personal computeroperations and various programs. Workingknowledge of administrative procedures and maintenance of public recordsand documents. Interpersonal communication skills.
Skill in computer keyboard operations.
Ability to exercise initiativeindependent judgment and to act resourcefully under varying conditions; communicate effectively verbally and inwriting; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships withfellow employees elected officials and other agencies of the public; establishand maintain comprehensive records and files.
3. SpecialQualifications:
Preference in hiring shall be given to thosewith knowledge of the land use and building permit process and how building divisions interrelate toother city agencies and external organizations. A basic knowledge of building codes and code requirements is preferred.
Mustpossess an International Code Council (ICC) certification as a PermitTechnician or obtain one within 18 months of employment.
4. WorkEnvironment:
Incumbentof the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climatecontrols. Tasks require variety ofphysical activities not generally involving muscular strain such as walkingstanding stooping sitting reaching talking hearing and seeing. Rapid work speed required to perform keyboardoperations. Common eye hand fingerleg and foot dexterity exist. Mentalapplication utilizes memory for details verbal instructions emotionalstability discriminating thinking and some guided problem solving.
FLSA AND AT-WILL STATUS
This position is an at-willposition and is exempt from the protections of Utah Code. As such the Permit Technician may beterminated with or without cause and shall not be entitled to due processappeal authority as set forth in Utah Code.
The Permit Technician position is anon-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
