Description of Work

The Hepatitis Epidemiologist position supports the HIV/STD Surveillance Unit within the Communicable Disease Branch by evaluating hepatitis B and C surveillance data and systems to improve data quality and inform public health decision-making.

This role conducts case review performs data cleaning and produces regular reports and fact sheets for internal stakeholders and public distribution. Work includes responding to epidemiologic data requests completing analytical assignments and collaborating with public health partners to address viral hepatitis.

The Hepatitis Epidemiologist contributes to statewide disease monitoring efforts by applying epidemiologic methods maintaining accurate surveillance records and supporting evidence-based strategies to reduce negative health outcomes.

Key Duties Include:
- Evaluate hepatitis B and C surveillance data by conducting case review validating key data elements and performing data cleaning procedures.

- Analyze surveillance datasets to identify trends patterns and data quality issues that impact public health monitoring.

- Produce regular epidemiologic reports and fact sheets for internal audiences and public dissemination ensuring accuracy and clarity.

- Respond to requests for epidemiologic analyses from internal programs local health departments and community-based organizations.

- Provide technical assistance and consultation to partners on viral hepatitis data surveillance procedures and interpretation of results.

- Maintain surveillance system documentation and ensure data are updated stored and managed in accordance with program standards.

- Collaborate with Epidemiology Section colleagues to support disease control strategies and enhance understanding of viral hepatitis trends.

- Conduct literature reviews and incorporate evidence-based approaches to strengthen surveillance methods and public health interventions.

- Assist in developing or refining surveillance processes reports and analytic workflows to improve efficiency and data accuracy.

- Coordinate communication with local and state partners to support timely reporting case followup and implementation of public health response activities.

Salary Range: $61177.00 - $91767.00

Recruitment Range: $61177.00 - $65941.00

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Experience conducting surveillance data review and data cleaning for hepatitis B and C cases including verification of case details and correction of incomplete or inconsistent data in surveillance systems.

  • Advanced proficiency performing epidemiologic and statistical analyses using public health surveillance datasets to identify trends assess data quality and support program decisionmaking.

  • Documented skills producing epidemiologic reports fact sheets and data summaries for internal and public audiences using established communication standards to present analyses clearly and accurately.

  • Professional experience delivering technical assistance to communitybased organizations and local health department staff on viral hepatitis surveillance procedures analytic findings and interpretation of epidemiologic data.

  • Proven experience collaborating with disease surveillance partners to support investigation reporting and control strategies including coordination of data requests and integration of evidencebased approaches.
