Your opportunity:

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Day Stay Unit (DSU) you will be responsible for providing comprehensive patient care for surgical patients pre- and post-operatively. The DSU RN will demonstrate a professional and caring approach to patients and families using the primary/team nursing model. The DSU RN must come with recent Acute Surgical Nursing experience including Day Surgery and/or Inpatient surgical nursing unit. The DSU RN also must have strong organizational and prioritization skills and functions autonomously in the Day Surgery setting. The DSU RN will participates in collaborative practice with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Utilize the nursing process to assess diagnose plan implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Critical thinking problem solving and decision-making for the best course of action in providing patient care.
  • Leadership teamwork educate and orientate nursing staff members.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative patient care including patient assessment vitals & medication administration in the Day Surgery setting.
  • Complete timely and accurate records on an electronic medical charting system.
  • Certified and proficient with IV starts and Glucose meter testing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS-HCP)
  • Recent Acute Surgical Nursing Experience including Day Surgery and/or Inpatient surgical unit
  • Physical ability to provide patient care to post-operative patients (including lifting & transfers)
  • Computer literacy and experience in electronic medical records
  • Ability to work assigned rotation staggered shift times and extended shifts
