POSITION SUMMARY |
The Assistant Mill Manager/Operations Manager supports the Mill Manager in the day-to-day leadership of mill operations. This role helps ensure the safe efficient and cost-effective production of specialty paper products while maintaining quality environmental and regulatory compliance. The position acts as a bridge between hourly production teams maintenance technical resources and management to optimize machine performance resolve operational issues and support continuous improvement initiatives. The Assistant Mill Manager may assume leadership responsibility for mill operations in the absence of the Mill Manager. This position is located in Little Falls New York. |
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
Operational Leadership Assist the Mill Manager in overseeing daily mill operations to ensure safe efficient production. Coordinate production priorities and shift activities to meet production and customer requirements. Monitor paper machine performance troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions. Assist in planning production schedules machine trials and grade changes. Serve as a point of contact for operations during off-hours or call-ins as needed. Process Optimization & Technical Support Analyze operational data and production trends to improve machine efficiency and reduce variability. Assist with optimization of papermaking variables including wet end chemistry machine settings chemical usage Work with vendors and internal teams to evaluate new technologies and improve processes. Support grade development trials and process improvement initiatives. Workforce Coordination Provide guidance and support to hourly operators and shift supervisors. Assist with workforce scheduling overtime coordination and operational staffing needs. Support training initiatives for production employees related to safety quality and operations. Promote a culture of accountability teamwork and continuous improvement. Safety Quality & Compliance Promote and enforce a safe work environment and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Participate in incident investigations and support corrective action implementation. Ensure adherence to quality systems GMP requirements and food safety policies. Support environmental compliance including wastewater discharge monitoring and reporting. Continuous Improvement & Projects Identify opportunities for cost savings waste reduction and productivity improvements. Support capital projects machine upgrades and equipment improvements. Participate in root cause analysis and reliability initiatives. Administrative & Communication Assist with reporting of production metrics downtime analysis and operational KPIs. Communicate operational issues and performance updates to leadership. Participate in manufacturing meetings and operational planning discussions. |
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
Bachelors Degree in Paper Science/Engineering Chemistry or related field 5 years of experience in paper manufacturing or industrial process operations Strong understanding of papermaking processes and machine operations Experience with papermaking chemistry machine clothing and process controls Experience with production data systems or process monitoring tools Supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing environment |

WORK ENVIRONMENT |
While performing the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to: Travel and overtime may be required based on project and operational needs. Bend climb stairs and access all areas of equipment including elevated and confined spaces. Operate and inspect machinery safely and effectively. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently. Communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms. Salary Range - $80000 - $115000 based on experience |
