The Environmental Technician will play a hands-on role in executing environmental monitoring and compliance programs that directly support permitting requirements and responsible project development.
This role is best suited for individuals who enjoy field-based work value precision and accountability and want to contribute to building environmental systems and practices from the ground up in a dynamic remote setting.
Travel:Rotational to site - 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off camp-based. Preference given to applicants who already reside in the Yukon.
Salary: $30 - $45/hour; 6-month contract
Role Scope:
Execute Environmental Monitoring Programs:
Deliver consistent high-quality field data collection across multiple programs including water quality groundwater wildlife vegetation and soil monitoring
Ensure all samples are collected documented stored and shipped in accordance with established protocols and chain of custody requirements
Maintain complete accurate and timely field records including digital data entry with preliminary QA/QC checks
Prepare calibrate install and maintain monitoring equipment to ensure readiness and reliability of field programs
Support field logistics including staging equipment and preparing sampling kits to ensure efficient program execution
Support Permit Compliance and Environmental Management Systems:
Conduct field inspections aligned with permit conditions and environmental management plans identifying and documenting deficiencies
Support implementation and continuous improvement of inspection programs checklists and standard operating procedures through field-based insights
Participate in spill prevention and response activities including field containment documentation and reporting
Compile and organize environmental data inspection records and supporting materials for compliance reporting
Deliver field-level environmental awareness and training to site personnel
Contribute to Field-Level Environmental Leadership:
Promote a strong safety and environmental culture through daily actions and communication
Identify field issues early and communicate effectively with supervisors to support timely resolution
Provide practical feedback to improve monitoring programs procedures and field execution
Work independently in remote and challenging conditions while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and accountability
Requirements:
1 to 4 years of experience in environmental monitoring field programs or related disciplines
Experience working in remote or northern environments with the ability to operate independently in variable terrain and weather conditions
Field sampling across one or more disciplines water groundwater wildlife vegetation soil
Equipment calibration and maintenance
Data management including accurate field recording and digital entry
Basic understanding of environmental compliance and inspection processes
Diploma or degree in environmental science biology or a related field
Valid Class 5 Drivers License
First Aid and/or relevant professional designations considered an asset
Ability to safely navigate uneven remote terrain and work in all weather conditions
Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs regularly
