Pay Rate: $20-$25 per hour commensurate with experience

Position Overview
Our Youth Theatre Company is seeking a supportive energetic and organized Directors Assistant for our Kids Program. This part-time position assists the Director in guiding young performers through the rehearsal and performance process helping to create a positive structured and confidence-building theatre experience.
The Directors Assistant plays a key role in reinforcing direction supporting classroom management and ensuring rehearsals run smoothly for elementary-aged students. Kids productions are casts of approximately 25 students ages 7-11.
Key Responsibilities
Rehearsal Support
- Assist the Director during rehearsals by reinforcing blocking choreography music and staging.
- Help manage transitions between activities to maintain focus and engagement.
- Support small-group rehearsals as needed.
- Take basic blocking and rehearsal notes.
- Help distribute scripts and rehearsal materials.
Student Engagement & Classroom Management
- Model respectful enthusiastic and professional behavior.
- Help maintain a structured inclusive and supportive rehearsal environment.
- Encourage participation and positive ensemble behavior.
- Provide gentle redirection and age-appropriate behavioral support.
- Assist students with memorization stage directions and performance readiness.
Production Support
- Assist with organizing props costumes and simple set pieces.
- Support technical rehearsals and performances as assigned.
- Coordinate backstage operations during technical rehearsals and performances.
- Help supervise backstage areas during performances.
- Ensure students are prepared and in place for entrances.
Communication & Collaboration
- Work closely with the Director and production team to support artistic goals.
- Communicate student needs or concerns to program leadership.
- Assist with attendance tracking and basic documentation.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience working with elementary-aged children.
- Background in theatre performing arts or arts education.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and take direction.
- Patient energetic and dependable.
Preferred:
- Previous experience assisting with youth theatre productions.
- Experience in classroom camp or arts program settings.
- Basic understanding of staging blocking and rehearsal processes.
