Starting Wage
- Salary: The starting salary for this position is $42.00-$48.00/hour DOE.
Job Type
- Full-Time Non-Exempt
Schedule
- Standard Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm or 9:00am-5:00pm 4 days/week; 1 day/week 11:00am-7:00pm;
Schedule will include 1 weekend shift.
Training
- Orientation: Alternatives provides thorough orientation and training for all new staff. You can expect a one-week orientation where you will learn all about Alternatives and be prepared for your role. This first week is scheduled from 9 AM to 5 PM at our Alternatives Training Center
To be a successful Lead Nurse - you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Accredited RN education and current Montana licensure.
- Valid drivers license.
- Ability to pass a federal workplace drug screen and background check.
- Ability to relate to offenders; previous corrections experience is a plus.
- Preferred:
- Leadership skills and experience.
- Mental health experience.

What Will You Do in This Position
As a Lead Nurse for Alternatives you will support residents in our Passages and Alpha House programs with their medical needs and questions. You will also be second in command to the Nursing Supervisor of Alternatives assisting in site oversight and direction as needed. If you have nursing experience and leadership abilities this would be a great opportunity to join our team!
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assisting Nursing Supervisor with oversight of team and answering questions assisting in training as needed.
- Providing guidance to other team members.
- Obtaining reviewing and storing accurate medical files and records including obtaining medical records from other institutions as needed.
- Upholding strict HIPAA and agency policy requirements to ensure the privacy of our residents.
- Following up with residents who have suffered accidents or injuries.
- Managing special diets and related issues in cooperation with food services.
- Assisting offenders in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes.
- Providing first aid as needed.
- Completing all requirements for the Department of Corrections including preparing medical transfer sheets and ensuring transfer medications for residents moving to another facility.
- This role requires great confidentiality care and coordination with other Agency departments.

PTO
- Accrual: Start accruing PTO from your first paycheck. Full-time (40-hour) employees with 0-2 years of employment accrue 4.65 hours per pay period totaling 15 days a year.
- Increased Accrual with Tenure: Accrual rates increase at 3 years 5 years and every subsequent 5-year mark up to 25 years.
- Pro Rata Basis: Accrual rates for employees working 20-30 hours per week are on a pro rata basis.
Paid Holidays
- Full-Time Employees: Enjoy 11 paid holidays.
- Part-Time Employees: Employees working 20-30 hours per week also receive paid holidays on a pro rata basis.
