Director of Benefits
Job Description
- Lead the design implementation administration and communication of employee benefit programs
- Oversee and manage external consultants brokers trustees and service providers
- Ensure all benefit programs comply with applicable regulations including IRS and ERISA requirements
- Develop and maintain competitive cost-effective benefit programs to attract and retain talent
- Partner with HR leadership to support and execute Total Rewards strategies aligned with business goals
- Manage and develop a team of benefits professionals providing leadership and performance oversight
- Maintain and build relationships with external vendors consultants and actuaries
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g. COBRA HIPAA FMLA healthcare reform)
- Evaluate implement and improve benefits processes for efficiency and accuracy
- Collaborate with HRIS and IT teams to enhance systems and automate benefits administration
- Serve as an escalation point for complex benefits issues and process improvements
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors degree in Business Human Resources or related field required
- Masters degree preferred
Certifications
- HR-related certification preferred (e.g. CEBS CBP)
Experience & Skills
- 10 years of experience managing benefits operations in a complex or multi-entity organization
- Experience administering retirement plans (401(k) 403(b) pension non-qualified plans) and health & welfare programs
- Strong knowledge of benefits compliance plan design and implementation
- Experience with HRIS systems required
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams
- Knowledge of relevant regulations (COBRA HIPAA FMLA ERISA IRS DOL)
- Experience with wellness program development preferred
- Strong analytical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and escalate issues appropriately
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
- Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with computer systems and benefits administration tools
