Ann & Robert H. Lurie Childrens Hospital of Chicago and the Department of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM) areseekinga part-time or full-time non-tenure-eligible Health System Clinician in the Wellness and Weight Management program part of the Division of Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care. The position will be employed by the Lurie Childrens Medical Group (LCMG) and part of the Operating Unit of the Department of Pediatrics.
About the Role
The individuals clinical responsibilities include outpatient care for children and adolescents (ages 2 to 19) with obesity and related cardio-renal-metabolic complications.The Wellness and Weight Management Program currently seesnearly 3000patient visits annually at one of three outpatient locations.
You will join a multidisciplinary team which includes:
Physicians
Advanced Practice Providers
Registered Dietitians
Nursing and Medical Assistant support
Social Work
Administrative staff
Our program offers individualized evidence-informed family-centered care including:
Intensive lifestyle interventions
Pharmacotherapy
Coordination with Lurie Childrens Bariatric Surgery Program
Access to a broad network of Lurie Childrens subspecialists
Academic & Institutional Responsibilities
All faculty members are expected toparticipatein the educational programs of the Department and FSM which may include teaching service training preceptorship mentoring etc. Additionally all Lurie Childrens faculty members are expected to attend certain divisional and Departmental meetings and engage in other administrative duties asdeterminedby the Division Head. Advocacy work on behalf of patients families and the community we serve isan important componentof LCMGs and Lurie Childrens mission. It is expected that all faculty members will support important initiatives in this area.
Location
This individuals clinical time will be primarily based at Lurie Childrens newAustin HOPE Centerlocatedin the Austin neighborhood a community rich in history and cultural strength that has experienced longstanding underinvestment. This exciting new multispecialty clinic and hub for pediatric specialty care and community services is being co-developed with the Stone CommunityDevelopment Corporation and Community Neighborhood Initiatives driven by feedback from community members. As program needsevolve clinical responsibilities may expand toadditionallocations.
Qualifications
Qualified candidatesare required tobe:
Board certified in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine-Pediatrics
Have clinical experience in weight management (primary care or relevant subspecialties such as Endocrinology Cardiology or Gastroenterology)
Doctorate in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine with specialization in pediatrics.
Valid licenses for State of Illinois.
Board certification or board eligibility required.
Excellent written and oral communication skill.
Passion for pediatric care.
Preferred qualifications include:
Board certification in Obesity Medicine or completion of an obesity medicine fellowship
Candidates not yet certified may be eligible for institutional support to obtain certification
The candidate must also be licensed (orin the process of obtaininglicensure) in the State of Illinois to practice without addition the candidate will be required to obtain medical staff membership and privileges at Lurie Childrens and any other required health care institution complete credentialing by managed care organizations and complete certain Human Resources employment processes including providing proof of ability to lawfully work in the United States a pre-employment background check employee health screening and receipt of satisfactory professional references if requested. The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until it is filled.
Base Salary Range: $175000 to $290000
The displayed pay rangerepresentsbase pay targets using designated benchmarks which are reviewed annually. Individual salary may bedeterminedby years in rank experience demand within the specialtyadditionaltraining extramural funding and strength of publication history. Other compensation opportunities vary but may include mission-based clinical research and academic incentives oradditionalcompensation for leadership roles in line with the respective compensation plan.
Job Duties:
Conduct regular thorough examinations on newborns and children to check and record their physical and mental development.
Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms.
Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history.
Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration.
Diagnosis treatment and screening of mental health illness in pediatric population.
Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities.
Consult with fellow pediatric partners and nurses on best practices.
Examine and treat injuries; refer to physicians of other specialties when necessary (e.g. surgeons ophthalmologists orthopedists etc.).
Advise parents on childrens diet exercise and disease preventive measures. Emphasis on early detection and prevention.
Maintain updated records of patients illnesses surgeries or other medical episodes (allergic shocks injuries etc.).
Advocate for patients families and fellow staff members.
Keep abreast of advancements in pediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences.
