Key Responsibilities
As the Financial Accountant you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting while supporting continuous improvement across accounting processes.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Manage full-cycle accounting including month-end and year-end close processes ensuring all timelines and deliverables are met.
- Prepare and review reconciliations for bank accounts inventory and general ledger accounts ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze revenue and expenses investigate variances and provide clear insights to support decision-making.
Accounting Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with ASPE and internal policies ensuring strong audit trails for all journal entries.
- Prepare and post journal entries including accruals amortization and intercompany transactions.
- Support inventory accounting processes including reconciliations adjustments and costing considerations within a manufacturing environment.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify inefficiencies in existing processes and implement improvements to streamline month-end and reporting activities.
- Contribute to ongoing ERP enhancements and system upgrades supporting the transition to cloud-based solutions.
- Leverage data and automation tools to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Planning Analysis & Projects
- Assist with budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes providing supporting analysis and insights.
- Support KPI development and dashboard reporting to track business performance.
- Participate in special projects including costing initiatives and financial process enhancements.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Controller and broader finance team to support business objectives and financial accuracy.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to gather information resolve discrepancies and improve financial processes.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both finance and non-finance team members.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role candidates should demonstrate:
Education & Experience:
- Post-secondary degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
- Minimum 35 years of progressive accounting experience with full-cycle accounting exposure.
- CPA designation completed or in progress is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and data analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems; exposure to manufacturing environments and inventory accounting is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE); experience with multi-currency environments is an asset.
