Summary Description: This is a kitchen staff position. Under the supervision of the Executive Chef Sous Chef and Cafe Leads the Cafe Aide performs a variety of duties related to food preparation service and general maintenance in the kitchen and dining area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Washes dishes; cleans and scrubs pots and pans
• Cleans and sets up trays
• Empties trash recycling and compost daily
• Sweeps and mops floors in kitchen and dining area
• Maintains clean serving areas and sets up cafeteria for timely service
• Sets up tray line by arranging food
• Assists the chef in the preparation of meals as needed
• Peels slices cores and dices vegetables and fruits by hand or using such mechanical equipment as automatic peelers slicers and dicers
• Pours salad dressings and condiments
• Assists in stocking shelves receiving and storing orders
• Properly packs labels and stores leftover food
• Follows state and federal regulations regarding food handling serving and cleanliness
• Serves meals throughout lunch period

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

• Ability to read and follow all food safety and physical safety rules
• strong communication skills especially when interacting with scholars
• Exceptional personal hygiene
• Ability to lift bend stoop and carry heavy trays and packages of food and supplies

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to stand stoop reach and bend. Mobility of arms to reach dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects
• Ability to stand for long periods and walk long distances
• Ability to lift push and/or pull objects (up to approximately 50 pounds unassisted and up to approximately 100 pounds assisted)
• Ability to read small print
• Ability to work with and in the proximity of equipment with moving mechanical parts
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
• Ability to work around loud noise

Experience Required: Demonstrated skill and experience in the preparation and serving of food especially in an elementary school setting

Special Requirements: Must have or be willing to obtain a Serve Safe Food Handlers certification.
