Main Purpose of Job
Key Responsibilities:
1. Create a Supportive Learning Environment
Establish a safe inclusive and nurturing classroom atmosphere where students feel respected valued and motivated to engage in learning.
2. Develop and Deliver Engaging Instruction
Design and implement dynamic lesson plans tailored to the diverse needs learning styles and abilities of students fostering both academic growth and personal development.
3. Employ Effective Teaching Strategies
Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies strategies and technologies to enhance student engagement and create meaningful learning experiences.
4. Monitor and Support Student Progress
Conduct regular assessments both formative and summative to evaluate student progress provide constructive feedback and offer individualized support to ensure academic success.
5. Collaborate with a Multidisciplinary Team
Work closely with social workers counselors administrators and other professionals to create comprehensive plans that address individual student challenges and promote overall success.
6. Promote Restorative Practices
Implement restorative approaches and conflict resolution techniques to cultivate positive relationships among students and foster accountability responsibility and personal growth.
7. Serve as a Mentor and Role Model
Demonstrate empathy patience and understanding while encouraging positive behavior responsible decision-making and resilience.
8. Engage with Families and Guardians
Maintain open and consistent communication with students families or guardians providing updates on academic performance behavior and any concerns while fostering a partnership for student success.
9. Stay Informed on Educational Best Practices
Remain current with the latest research strategies and interventions in youth education continuously refining teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of students.
10. Commit to Professional Growth
Participate in professional development opportunities training sessions and workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness and uphold a high standard of professional comprehensive approach ensures a positive transformative impact on the educational and personal development of the youth we serve.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Mustpossess a MSDE Secondary Education Educator License.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Active licensure in one or more of the following content areas:English Social Studies Science Mathematics ESOL Career and TechnicalEducation (CTE) or School Counseling.
2. A minimum of one year of teaching experience which may includeinternship experience.
3. Current active certification issued by the Maryland StateDepartment of Education.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers in State operated school programs arerequired to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State ofMaryland per Education Article Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code ofMaryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended forappointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification ofCredentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures forapplication may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education 200 Street Baltimore MD 21201-2595.
Additional educational credits beyond theAdvanced Professional Certificate must meet the following criteria establishedby the Institutional Educators Pay Plan Committee in order to qualify for applicationtoward the APC plus 30 (60) levels:
Credits must be beyond the education level heldat the time the educational requirements for the Advanced ProfessionalCertificate were met and must either relate to the current job responsibilitiesor be part of an employer approved program of study.
Credits mean semester hours from a regionallyaccredited college or university or Maryland State Department of Educationapproved workshops.
No more than one half of any additional creditsapplied to these criteria may be earned through Maryland Department ofEducation approved workshops.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employeesin this classification are subject to

Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) 17.04.09which addresses the testing for illegal drug use.
As part of the hiring process applicants must consent toState Police and Child Protective Services (CPS)investigations/background checks which are standard procedures forall employees working in State Juvenile Services facilities.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States as requiredby theImmigration Reform and Control Act must be providedupon hire.

Conditional Maryland Teaching Certificate. If it isdetermined after hiring that the incumbent does not qualify for thiscertification or fails to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland TeachingCertificate employment will be terminated.
