Assistant Director for Accessibility and Disability Services
As a member of a critical support team within the Student Success Center this individual provides administrative support for the ADS Director and academic support for the students who are approved for disability accommodations.

Integrative Coach

Integrative Coaching is a customized student-centered program designed to support students in their achievement of Dominican University of Californias Institutional Learning Outcomes. The Integrative Coach is a mentor guiding and working with multiple students with the goal of supporting each student in maximizing their learning engagement and aspirations.



Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assistant Director for Accessibility and Disability Services

  • Supports the ADS Director with administrative tasks related to departmental needs such as:
    • Managing a caseload of students to support throughout each semester performing periodic check-ins with students registered with ADS
    • Generating reasonable accommodation letters for students and amending accommodations as needed
    • Maintaining accurate records of all student interaction/contact
  • Supervises ADS student assistants and peer mentors
  • In consultation with Director assists with evaluating intakes of students who are newly registered with ADS
  • Communicates with faculty and students regarding accommodation implementation escalating complex or non-compliant cases to the Director as necessary
  • Provides academic and executive function coaching to interested students registered with ADS
  • Consults with prospective ADS students
  • Provides oversight of the management of accommodations including notetaking and ASL interpretation
  • Meets regularly with other ADS team members to discuss cases and procedures and to assess protocol
  • Educates campus community about relevant topics including UDL neurodiversity and ADA compliance
  • Assists in the conversion of instructional materials into accessible formats as needed
  • Serves on campus committees and workgroups as an ADS representative as needed
  • As needed provides individual and group support and workshops in the areas of academic support navigating campus systems interpersonal relationships (personal and professional) etc. for students who receive accommodations through ADS and to students who are in need of additional support services
  • Manages proctoring for ADS in consultation with Coordinator of Learning Services and Director
  • Collaborates with on-campus Veterans groups to provide ADS support for the Veterans on campus
  • Stays current with policies and practices in college disability services

Integrative Coach

  • Coach and guide students as they explore develop and reflect on realistic academic education career and life plans by acting as a sounding board and dedicated resource
  • Teach/Co-facilitate (with peer mentors) 1-unit courses within the integrative coaching curriculum: Navigating College Career Jump Start Adulting Mentor Training
  • Connect students with resources to aid them with initial transition and adjustment to University life
  • Liaise with and provide support and resources for graduate programs and students
  • Participate in peer mentor training
  • Assist students in managing relationships with various critical members of the University and local community including but not limited to faculty advisors alumni mentors professionals professors and tutors
  • Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as counseling financial assistance community engagement etc.
  • Follow-up with students on any reports of challenges academic or otherwise
  • Participate in supporting students with Digital Portfolio development by offering guidance and feedback
  • Collaborate with a team of Integrative Coaches to provide uniform and quality experiences for all students
  • Stay abreast of changing institutional information (academic education and career plans; graduation requirements; etc.)
  • Maintain detailed records of student interactions. Participate actively in program review and other assessment activities
  • May advise a caseload of first year students
  • Working with Executive Director of the Student Success Center to plan for and facilitate Integrative Coaching staff meetings

Required Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility.   • Masters degree in education counseling or equivalent
  • Minimum three years of experience working directly with students in higher education
  • Minimum three years of experience working with students with disabilities
  • Strong interpersonal verbal writing and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated compassion patience respect and comfort with diversity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google suite. Ability to master on campus data systems
  • Apply working knowledge of medical psychological and educational documentation to assist in the intake process and the identification of reasonable accommodations
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial ethnic academic and socio-economic backgrounds sexual orientation and disabilities
  • Significant experience mentoring students and/or working with both at-risk and high achieving populations
  • Exhibit capacity for professional collaboration with a range of University stakeholders: students faculty staff administrators and volunteers.
  • Ability to work with complex systems in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and relevant California state law
  • Understanding of FERPA HIPAA and other legal/ethical considerations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of a university student information system
  • Knowledge of Alternative Media and/or Assistive Technology
  • Experience as a Learning Disability Specialist
  • Understanding of issues impacting graduate level students
  • Basic American Sign Language
