Description

Clean Harbors in Wilmington DE is seeking an Environmental Waste Chemist to handle segregate pack and inspect chemical waste in accordance with company policies and procedures. This position will work both indoors and outdoors at plants labs customer sites and are responsible for assisting with lab packs.

Pay Range: $24.00 - 30.00 per hour BOE Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Responsibilities

Make waste pickups at labs as needed.
Prepare computer-generated packing lists labels manifests and land disposal restrictions notifications.
Identify unknown laboratory chemicals when they are encountered.
Perform inspections of staging accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.
Inspect storage area for leaks or spills.
Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations.
Collect segregate and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.
Sampling and profiling of new waste streams or any wastes needing analytical testing.
Maintain and manage waste profile data.
Evaluate specialty waste materials such as gas cylinders and potentially explosive compounds and determine disposal options.
Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Valid Class B CDL
By position obtain a hazmat and tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment
Strong customer service skills
Perform physical functions per job requirements
Successfully complete a background check drug test and physical by position
Per OSHAs Respiratory Protection Standard 29 CFR 1910.34 employees in positions requiring respirators are required to meet facial hair standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science
Previous experience in Environmental Services (i.e. remediation abatement emergency spill response etc.)
