JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Biology at Pomona College invites applications for two one-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions in organismal biology and/or ecological sciences beginning Fall 2026. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: ecology animal physiology plant physiology or animal behavior. Successful candidates will offer an upper-level elective course with laboratory in their above area of expertise during one semester and in the other semester teach in one of our introductory courses with laboratory (Introductory Genetics or Introductory Cell Biology).
The department can provide support for faculty members pursuit of independent research especially if that research is in collaboration with undergraduate students at Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability or potential to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgroundsutilizing pedagogical practices that are rigorous inclusive and which promote academic equity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education--Required: Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field by July 1 2026 required
Teaching Experience--Preferred: Demonstrable experience teaching lecture courses with laboratory; previous teaching experience with a strong
interest in teaching undergraduates and a desire to mentor underrepresented populations

REQUIREMENTS: The start date is effective July 1 2026 with instruction beginning on Monday August 31. After submitting proof of work authorization and completing onboarding Visiting Assistant Professors are expected to prepare for their classes and lab sessions and attend the New Faculty Orientation held in the weeks before classes start. This non-tenure-track position is instructional and does not require student advising faculty service or participation in faculty governance.
