Job Summary
The Assistant Principal High School Operations role is an integral part of the Information and Operations team ensuring all non-instructional components of the schools daily operations are effectively managed and executed. The starting salary range for this role is $113839-$125821. This is a full-time fully onsite role based at one of KIPP DCs College Prep High School with an immediate start date.

About the Role
As the Assistant Principal of High School Operations you will play a key role on the school leadership team overseeing various non-instructional operational areas including but not limited to finance procurement student information recruitment attendance technology food service facilities and safety all to create an environment that enables teachers to focus on student instruction. You will maintain strong partnerships with nearly every department within the school infrastructure serving as a guiding leader to ensure the smooth daily functioning and execution of school offerings. As an Assistant Principal this position must also ensure adherence to established internal control policies and procedures and maintain compliance within the organization.
Location and Type of Work
This is an exempt position and will report to the Director of Operations. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours.
Responsibilities
The percentages for each key responsibility are estimates and other duties may be assigned. Flexibility and responsiveness are encouraged to accommodate organizational needs.
Academic Operations (50% of time)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain accurate and up-to-date student records (e.g. contact info attendance grades transcripts) and lead the coordination of assessments (SAT MAP AP DC CAPE) and testing logistics providing timely reports and data updates.
- Facilitate student recruitment and enrollment processes ensuring 100% enrollment at the start of the school year and organize recruitment efforts through mailings open houses and neighborhood outreach.
- Oversee the development of the yearly school class schedule and campus room assignments based on staffing and curricular requirements.
- Host staff training for the execution of student assessments grading and other school-wide initiatives.
Campus Operations (20% of time)
- Oversee a department of 5 operations team members with Direct management of the Campus Director of Operations. This team leads distinct workstreams including facilities & cleaning maintenance meal program finance safety and oversight of auxiliary services and third-party personnel.
- Ensure effective IT coordination and compliance with health safety and workplace regulations and liaise with HR for payroll and benefits administration.
- Collaborate with the school leader in budget development monitor fiscal policies and daily procurement processes.
- Communicate and track renovation maintenance and space needs to the HDQ facilities team track school assets and inventory and manage the quality of equipment.
Management of Extracurricular Events (15% of time)
- Oversee the development of logistics for extracurricular activities athletics field trips special events and visitor management.
- Collaborate with the schools Athletic Director to verify student-athlete eligibility coordinate athletic logistics with the regional athletics leader and ensure compliance with KIPP DC policies and relevant governing bodies.
- Manage the operational staffing structure to oversee and support evening and weekend events or facility usage by external vendors.
Safety and Security (15% of time)
- Coach the Manager of Safety Operations to oversee school security vendors ensuring student safety through guard rotations emergency equipment maintenance and compliance with safety protocols.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to establish and update emergency response team protocols and ensure the campus is fully informed of all safety procedures
- Cultivate relationships with community partners and local officials to support city and network-wide safety initiatives.
Requirements & Preferences
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- 7 years of experience in administration and operations
- Proven project management skills as it relates to the creation of different systems and structures
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams throughout the network
- Availability to work on nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in business administration or related education field
- Experience managing $1M budget
- 3 years in a school operations leadership position or experience in school leadership (e.g. Principal VP or Dean) ideally middle or high school; or 5 years in strategy/operations leadership role
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts and solutions to broad audiences
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to a KIPP DC school
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours or weekends
