Position Summary

The Senior Power Supply Analyst performs advanced analytical and modeling work in the Power Portfolio & Strategy Department. This position develops and maintains power supply and portfolio models that inform resource planning procurement decisions and policy/regulatory compliance. The Senior Power Supply Analyst supports Grant PUDs mission to deliver reliable affordable and sustainable energy by optimizing the power supply portfolio and providing analytical support for portfolio risk management and the Integrated Resource Plan.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop build and maintain long-term portfolio models to evaluate resource adequacy cost and risk including detailed hydroelectric project modeling consistent with the Grant PUDs portfolio.
  • Evaluate new resource options (energy capacity cost and risk) including renewable resources energy storage demand response and market purchases.
  • Provide analytical and modeling support for strategies to manage wholesale portfolio risk including load and resource modeling to support the Integrated Resource Plan Grant PUDs Slice auction activities and other wholesale market transactions.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Rates/Pricing teams to align portfolio recommendations with budget requirements and Grant PUDs Growth Management Strategies.
  • Provide analytical support to Trading and Commercial Operations to inform marketing decisions in alignment with Grant PUD goals including optimization within established risk metrics and limits.
  • Ensure modeling assumptions methodologies and results are clearly documented transparent and auditable.
  • Maintain workflows processes and tools that support consistency transparency and reproducibility of modeling outputs.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards reports and visualizations to communicate portfolio performance planning outcomes risk exposure and forecast-to-actual performance.
  • Participate in public meetings and stakeholder workshops to explain modeling results planning assumptions and portfolio recommendations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUDs mission vision values and strategic plan. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws regulations security guidelines Grant PUD policies & procedures.
  • Actively support and participate in all aspects of our safety program including but not limited to:
    • Following all safety policies and procedures.
    • Alerting supervisors and coworkers of unsafe or hazardous working conditions.
    • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor.
    • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Required Qualifications: (Education and Experience License and/or Certification)

  • Bachelors degree in Business IT Engineering Mathematics or a related field required or 2 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in power supply planning energy modeling or utility resource analysis preferably in a public or municipal utility setting or closely related area.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and Experience License and/or Certification)

  • Experience with resource modeling software or production cost/simulation tools (e.g. Aurora or PLEXOS).
  • Experience with Python R SQL and/or Power BI (or comparable analytics and visualization tools).

Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in data analytics quantitative methods and model development/maintenance.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications including advanced Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of Western power markets and wholesale power transactions.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws regulations and policies affecting the utility industry.
  • Knowledge of electric utility operations including generation wholesale trading and an understanding of transmission/distribution concepts.
  • Experience performing financial risk and/or stochastic analysis.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical information clearly through written reports presentations and stakeholder discussions.

    • Will perform work onsite at the locations of the assigned Business Units
