Position Summary
The Manager IPAC is responsible and accountable for implementation operationalization management and monitoring of federal provincial regional and local initiatives legislation and best practices related to IPAC and for a quality measurement program ensuring sustainable delivery in the most effective and leading manner for the advancement of safety for patients healthcare providers visitors at BCHS.
Primary Responsibilities
Surveillance and Epidemiology
- Support surveillance activities including review of microbiology reports patient charts and unit rounds to identify trends clusters and outbreaks
- Assist with data analysis to support prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections
- Participate in investigation and management of infection clusters and outbreaks
- Ensure compliance with HPPA reporting requirements and provincial/federal guidelines
- Liaise with public health and regional healthcare partners
Quality Improvement & Education
- Lead and support development implementation and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives aligned with BCHS goals
- Monitor outcomes identify trends/risks and develop action plans using epidemiological and statistical methods
- Oversee surveillance processes to evaluate effectiveness of prevention and control strategies
- Ensure mandatory reporting and communication with internal and external partners (e.g. MOHLTC Public Health)
- Develop and maintain IPAC policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards and best practices
- Support development of IPAC education and resources for staff providers and patients
- Support implementation of changes required by regulatory bodies
Financial Management& Human Resources
- Manage budget inventory scheduling and payroll processes
- Lead recruitment performance management coaching and development of IPAC staff
- Participate in Manager on-call rotation
- Co-chair IPAC Committee and participate in internal/external committees
- Oversee reporting of healthcare-associated infection rates and compliance requirements
- Communicate IPAC updates and outbreak management to senior leadership
- Plan develop and monitor operating and capital budgets; report variances to the Director
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage expenditures within approved budgets
- Analyze utilization trends and adjust plans to meet changing needs
- Support procurement processes (e.g. RFPs/RFIs) for capital and consumable items
Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a healthcare field such as Nursing Health Sciences Public Health and Epidemiology Health Administration etc. or must be a Regulated Health Professional required
- Certification in Infection Control or CIC designation is required
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical leadership experience in a unionized environment required
- Minimum 5 years previous experience working in IPACrequired
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and function in a changing and sometimes demanding work environment
- Independent thought leadership - able to work independently make timely decisions and drive solutions forward under pressure.
