Pay range
English only: $29.11 - $29.54/hour
English/Spanish bilingual: $30.57 - $31.02/hour

Schedule is Monday-Friday hours may vary between 7:45 a.m. to 5:05 p.m. 40 hours/week hourly non-exempt.

Purpose:To enjoy working with children and supervising them in an after-school setting; supporting childrens development in a nurturing kind manner with emphasis on positive behavior guidance. Serve as classroom lead creating a positive culturally affirming climate. Teacher has overall responsibility of curriculum classroom routines parent-teacher conferences child observations/assessments and offers support to other classroom staff if applicable. Teacher must comply with program and agency-wide policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
Teaching
  • To supervise and enrich school age children (teacher:child ratio 1:14) in an after-school and summer program setting; lead development and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities/curriculum.
  • Conduct annual classroom evaluation utilizing School Age Environmental Rating Scale (SACERS) as well as bi-annual development assessments (DRDPs) to inform implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Implement weekly social-emotional lessons using approved curriculum (e.g. SPOT Second Step)
  • Effectively engage parents in supporting their childs development; work in partnership with parents to assess children individually; distribute parent education materials; address behavior directly as appropriate and seek guidance from Program Director when necessary.
  • Ensure positive and open communication with colleagues
  • Actively participate in weekly School Age meetings and summer planning sessions
  • Responsible for ensuring professionalism respecting confidentiality and following agency procedures regarding conflict resolution. Works well with others as part of a team.
  • Work closely with Director to foster a positive culturally affirming climate in the classroom and obtain guidance as needed. Follow procedures listed in the Employee Handbook and Family Handbook.
  • Responsible for regular child documentation including evidence collection for developmental assessments parent communication and incident reports
  • Support childrens development in an inclusive nurturing kind manner with emphasis on positive behavior guidance
  • Actively participate in staff training and professional development activities; staff and agency team meetings.
  • Maintain aesthetically pleasing safe and hygienic classroom environment.
  • Maintain current Child Development Permit (including 21 hours of professional development and/or academic coursework annually) CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Be a strong ambassador for the agency including knowing and adhering to the agencys mission values and programs; referring program participants; and engaging volunteers and donors when possible.
  • Complete any related tasks assigned by Child Development managers or Leadership Team.
  • Supervise and interact with children requiring a full range of motion to lift reach squat climb sit and otherwise fully participate in activities
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality

Driving
  • Maintain a valid Class C drivers license and insurability at non-risk rates
  • Transport children in a NMCS 9 passenger van to and from NUSD school and on field trips.
  • Knowledge of current safety and road regulations for the state of California.
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment within passenger van while transporting children (i.e. proper discipline techniques readiness to administer CPR/First Aid etc.)
Qualifications

Required:
  • Associate Teacher Permit or higher OR 12 ECE units including core courses.
  • English fluency
  • 3 years of experience as a center-based or FCC childcare provider or teacher
  • Ability to supervise and interact with children requiring a full range of motion to lift reach squat climb sit and otherwise fully participate in activities.
  • Valid Class C drivers license and insurability at non-risk rates
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (can be completed upon hire)
Preferred:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • 1 year experience as a teacher for ages 0-5

Conditions of Hire:

  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless granted a medical or religious exemption.
  • Pre-employment health exam including proof of vaccinations and TB test clearance.
  • Criminal record clearance or exemption from California Department of Social Services. All convictions other than minor traffic violations require an exemption including convictions that have been expunged.
