Job Summary
SUMMARY: Operate large capacity vacuum furnaces used in the production of vacuum melted master metal which includes the charging of the furnace melting and refining of revert and raw materials and assists in the pouring of the master heat builds pour blocks removes skull and patches crucible linings knock out spent crucible lings and reline crucible with new refractory linings change coils at end of furnace campaign receives instructions from the master metal supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate vacuum furnace including charging raw materials and revert taking and identifying furnace dip sample.
- Monitor bath temperature using immersion thermocouples.
- Monitor the integrity of the vacuum pumps.
- Work with helpers (055) and other operators to remove spent crucible linings.
- Work with helpers and operators to reline crucible linings.
- Tear down and build pour blocks.
- Work with helpers and operators to change coils at end of furnace campaigns.
- Changes abrasive wheels and other consumable products as required.
- Assist Master Metal Supervisor in pouring master heats.
- Perform other duties as prescribed by the Master Metal Supervisor.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine labor reports. Ability to speak clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract five digit whole numbers and decimals and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement volume and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
OTHER QUALIFICATION:
Regular attendance and the ability to work weekday and weekend overtime.
