Your role and responsibilities
As Senior Engineer youll lead a small specialist team of engineers and technicians at the forefront of some of the UKs most significant infrastructure projects and a range of nationally significant development consent order (DCO) schemes. Your role involves technical approval and inspection of projects including EA1 and EA3 offshore windfarms Lionlink Sealink and National Grid projects Norwich to Tilbury and Bramford to Twinstead. Youll be responsible for managing workload developing talent and maintaining high technical standards whiles managing people issues ensuring the safe costeffective delivery of developerfunded highway infrastructure. Acting as the Highway Authoritys technical voice youll oversee the approval and inspection of new highways negotiate and advise on section 38 and 278 agreements and shape highway mitigation proposals from early planning through to adoption including to Sizewell C. Youll balance handson technical scrutiny with leadership responsibilities supporting recruitment undertaking PDRs mentoring staff and representing the authority confidently at meetings with developers stakeholders and the public. This is a pivotal role where your expertise will directly influence the quality safety and sustainability of highways that support major growth across the county.
You will need
- a strong engineering background with substantial experience in highway design technical approval and inspection of complex schemes including section 38 and 278 agreements
- proven ability to lead manage and develop a small professional team including setting priorities carrying out PDRs and supporting training and development
- indepth knowledge of highways legislation design standards construction design and management and health and safety requirements with confidence interpreting legal and technical documentation
- experience working within the planning and DCO environment providing clear technical advice managing conditions and engaging with developers consultants and stakeholders
- excellent communication and problemsolving skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly and represent the Highway Authority at meetings and public forums.

The team
This post is within the Transport Strategy Team part of the Growth Highways and Infrastructure Division of Suffolk County Council. The Transport Strategy service is responsible for delivering Inclusive growth as it applies to Transport in Suffolk. The group consists five integrated teams:
- Transport Strategy policy development and implementation.
- Delivery of integrated transport capital schemes from minor to major.
- Highway development management including nationally significant infrastructure projects. This post is within this team.
- Delivery of local transport improvement schemes.
- Delivery of road safety education training and publicity and smarter choices.
