Program Description: During the summer MSCR offers the Camp Compass childcare program across five locations. This camp offers 8 weeks of a fun enriching and inclusive experience to participants in grades K-5. Each day will include free play staff-led activities outdoor recess and meals. Field trips and special events will be included weekly when possible. Camp Compass is open to the public for registration. The CC programs run from 7:45-5:30pm. and include breakfast lunch and afternoon snack. Camp Compass Snapshot: Each CC site provides programming for approximately 70 students in grades K-5. Classrooms typically have 15-18 students supervised by two or more Program Leaders. Each site has a leadership team that consists of one Director and 2 Assistant Directors. Program Leaders begin their shift by checking in with their supervisor and preparing for the day. The majority of the time is spent supervising a group of participants. Once students leave for the day Program Leaders clean up and check in with their supervisor as needed. There is typically one staff meeting per week. Sites swim 1-2 times a week. Staff are required to swim with participants.
Job Description & Duties: Subs will fill in for absent Program Leaders. Subs are responsible for resuming the job duties of the person they are covering a shift for and facilitating their daily schedule and plans. Program leaders at site are responsible for the following duties: Plan prepare for and lead recreation and enrichment activities for elementary-age children at school sites. Supervise daily indoor and outdoor activities. Participate and get in the pool during swimming activities field trips and swim lessons Keep students safe by creating a safe inclusive and welcoming environment. Work as a team with other program staff to carry out responsibilities. Maintain a clean and organized classroom and site. Interact with parents as needed. Supervise group during off-site field trips including swim lessons. End of day cleanup. Other duties as assigned. Sub Process: MSCR will schedule and communicate sub shifts via the SubitUp app. There are three types of sub shifts: Scheduled shifts - scheduled with advanced notice/pre-planned absence more than 24 hours notice On-Call shifts are offered very last minute or day-of notice within 24 hours of the shift start-time Transfer shifts are shifts where the sub is actually transferred to a permanent / semi-permanent placement at a location. Once a scheduled shift is accepted subs are held to the same standards with regard to attendance and expectations of staff. Subs are likely to be offered repeat shifts at the same site. This is to offer you and the sites as much consistency with staff as possible. Subs who have more availability may be transferred to a permanent placement at a camp for a week or longer. MSCR will use an app called SubitUp for scheduling staff. Opportunities to sub will be listed in the SubitUp app and you will be able to sign up for shifts using the app. You will receive additional information about how to get set up and navigate the app as we get closer to summer. Sub hours cannot be guaranteed but it is possible to work close to full-time especially if you are willing/able to travel to multiple locations which you will be able to indicate in the acceptance form. Training info: MSCR will be holding an all-staff training event from June 12 and June 15-19. If you are available during training week you will be asked to attend training sessions specific to subs. These will be held on Monday June 15 and Wednesday June 17 from 9am-12pm at MSCR Central (328 E Lakeside St Madison WI 53715). If you are not able to work during training week you will be asked to sign up for training later in the summer with a Camp Compass Field Supervisor. All subs must attend this training prior to picking up shifts unless otherwise designated. Program Dates: June 22-August 14 No program/staff June 19 July 3 (unpaid holiday closure) |
Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications: Prior experience working with children. Ability to work Monday through Friday 8 hours/day. Comfortable in water. Ability and willingness to swim and/or supervise in a pool area. Must be 16 or older
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with youth in a recreation or childcare setting. Experience planning and leading activities. Experience providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Bilingual in Spanish Hmong or other languages. CPR Certification First Aid training |
