Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor of Communications and Engagement the Temporary Employee Engagement Specialist is responsible for keeping employees informed connected and motivated. The position facilitates the sharing of communication and information across the organization using various strategies and tools. Key duties include communicating organizational updates announcements and policy changes and coordinating corporate-wide staff campaigns events and initiatives while fostering open dialogue at all levels of the organization.

This temporary role is integral to building a positive workplace culture by fostering an open transparent and inclusive communication environment for all employees.

Job Duties Include

Key Duties

  • Develop implement and maintain a threeyear Internal Communications Strategy that aligns with organizational priorities and strengthens employee engagement.

  • Lead the development implementation and ongoing maintenance of corporate internal communications policies ensuring compliance with legislative and corporate requirements and consistent application across all departments.

  • Design and deliver comprehensive communications plans to support corporate departmental and committee initiatives with a primary focus on HR T&I and Finance.

  • Manage and continuously improve a diverse range of digital and inperson communication tools to ensure timely effective reach to all employees.

  • Collaborate closely with the Digital Communications Officer to manage and enhance the staff intranet ensuring content remains current relevant and engaging including oversight of policies homepage features and internal portals.

  • Monitor employee feedback through multiple channels and use insights to refine communication content formats and strategies to improve effectiveness and engagement.

  • Plan and coordinate CAO-led staff engagement initiatives including CAO Cafés and related activities.

  • Lead and support initiatives and campaigns that strengthen organizational culture and employee engagement such as employee appreciation events long service awards Food Truck Days Customer Service Week and committee events.

  • Partner with departments divisions and committees to deliver engagement opportunities that foster open inclusive and safe spaces for employees to provide input and ask questions on issues impacting their work.

  • Facilitate cross-committee collaboration ensuring alignment of initiatives and goals where appropriate (e.g. wellness social and innovation programs).

  • Actively promote committee initiatives to staff clearly communicating the purpose impact and opportunities for involvement through newsletters intranet content and departmental meetings.

  • Lead the planning and execution of committee-related events including wellness challenges diversity workshops and teambuilding activities ensuring seamless logistics such as scheduling venues and resources.

  • Ensure committees are equipped with the appropriate tools resources and communication strategies to effectively engage employees leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Coordinate Senior Management Team participation and roles at internal events.

  • Prepare briefings and information packages for the Senior Management Team related to staff events and initiatives.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Diploma in Communications Public Relations Marketing Advertising Journalism Multi-Media Design Human Resources or related discipline.

  • 1-3 years of experience preferable in a government or agency environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Proficient in SharePoint

  • Experience with developing and supporting internal communications plans (digital & in-person)

  • Staff event planning and support experience

  • Employee relations experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills proven ability to work on multiple competing priorities and deliver results

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment

  • Well-developed organization and time management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Creative and innovative thinker keen ability to identify emerging trends and apply in municipal context

  • Must be prepared to work various Town locations

Nice to Have (if required)

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop InDesign Premier)

  • Ability to plan capture and deliver highquality photographs for use across internal platforms presentations and digital channels

What is Offered to Staff Compensation:

  • Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.

  • Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works 35 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional work required outside of regular hours on evenings or weekends.
