Athena Engineering is a small-business with a long history - 40 years of history to be exact! Were a contractor specializing in Mechanical HVAC and building automation systems. To be clear - werenota PLC contractor and we dont do process automation - our systems automate a buildings HVAC security access-control and energy management. We install systems like this for hospitals commercial buildings laboratories entertainment venues theme parks public buildings and other exciting places throughout Southern California.
This is an entry-level position for an individual that loves building things and then making them smart. Youll use your technical knowledge and fancy new engineering degree for building automation project design material selection and development of sequence of operation. Youve got to be GREAT with computers and have an understanding of computer-operated systems and engineering design tools (e.g. AutoCAD VISIO EDS).
The person who takes this job has an interest in construction specifically smart buildings mechanical HVAC and electrical systems. Youve seen construction drawings and can grasp mechanical concepts. You also understand basic programming languages but dont want to become a computer software programmer.
Youll be primarily office based but there will definitely be points in time when you will be on site for on-site evaluations pre-engineering commissioning and training.
DUTIES:
- Performs as a Building Automation Design Engineer in the production of controls systems design drawings sequence of operations and submittals for lower to mid-level control systems
- Researches and selects control system peripherals. (end devices)
- Reads and interprets construction drawings and project specifications and ensures that the control systems design complies with the specs.
- Designs building automation systems for large and/or complex buildings consisting of mechanical system layouts electricaldrawings bill of materials sequence of operations valve damper & AFMS schedules and DDC panel layouts to meet the intent of theproject plans specifications and contract documents.
- Designs BAS network architectureto support operator workstations DDC field panels field controllers & third-party integration devices. Analyzes plans construction contract specifications and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
- Provides start-up and checkout documentation to the installation team for use in commissioning andvalidation.
- Prepares engineering re-estimate and follows up with appropriate sales and management to assure understandingof and satisfaction with job scope.
- Prepares specifications and drawings for special components and panels purchased from outside suppliers. Selects propertypes and sizes of control products to meet project requirements.
- Prepares all request for information (RFIs) on pre-installation extras or change orders to submit to the customer or general/ subcontractor.
- Assists business development department in preparing proposals as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1 years of experience in the construction or engineering of hvac building automation or electrical systems
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of MS Office Windows File Structure AutoCAD VISIO. Basic TCP/IP network structure and web navigation are desired.
- Have an understanding of electrical circuitry construction environments and safe work practices
- Ability to read and interpret architectural electrical mechanical and control drawings
- Must be highly organized and possess the ability to work in a high paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet the schedules given by the leadership
- Demonstrate the ability to operate independently and autonomously and take ownership of all tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and team oriented.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
