While in the school setting and under the supervision of a teacher participates in the direct care and instruction of students as prescribed by the Individualized Education Plan and the Grafton Treatment Plan. Assists the Teacher in implementation of instructional and therapeutic activities preparing materials collecting data and providing for the supervision personal care and safety needs of assigned student(s).
The Special Education Assistant role serves as an introductory position in a career pathway for individuals seeking growth in career fields such as teaching special education counseling therapy and other education or human services fields.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provides for the health safety and wellness of students through supporting health and hygiene utilizing infection control procedures reporting serious incidents.
- Under the guidance of the assigned teacher and/or clinician implements the students individualized educational and treatment plans.
- Collects data related to established treatment plan goals accurately and reliably.
- Documents services delivered accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provides a supportive and solution-focused environment through building trusting respectful relationships demonstrating knowledge about symptoms and supports associated with the diagnoses of assigned students and trauma-informed care approach managing behavior crises safely collaborating with the treatment team and exhibiting exemplary customer service with guardians agency personnel and visitors.
- Participates in site management through ensuring a safe school environment and clean and organized classroom.
- Provides transportation for community-based school activities which may require assisting with purchases and being accountable for program and client money.
- Demonstrates teamwork and commitment to the mission values and vision of Grafton through demonstrating knowledge of the organization and demonstrating core values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pursuingeducation in Teaching Special Education Psychology Sociology Counseling or other relevant programs of study
COMPENSATION
- $17.00-$22.00 based on experience
