Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY
The Residential Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors
ACCOUNTABILITIES
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic or typical of the job class:
Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports
Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare police parole urgent situations)
Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in doing bed checks room/personal searches
May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures
Handles the admission orientation and evaluation of clients understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies which may include client discipline
May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets and receipting of same
May serve as Receptionist for Shelter
May prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents
Performs other duties as assigned

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position reports directly to the Residential Team Manager
- This position has no direct reports
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT
- Confidential files and reports
- Involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources.
- May be authorized to spend disburse or collect small amounts of cash.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbents work environment is typically in a shelter and/or in treatment facilities.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
Dealing with angry people
Abusive people
Verbal abuse
Isolation
Work schedule affecting lifestyle
The incumbent my have little to no travel required.
The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shift.
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
Physical attacks by others
Exposure to infectious diseases
Exposure to bodily fluids
Sharp objects
Other dangerous situations
EDUCATUON AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Education Qualifications and Certifications
- Completion of high school plus specialized courses of up to six(6) months (Addition Facilities)
- Possess addictions counselling course certifications
- An alternate level of education and experience may be acceptable.
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
- Non-violent crisis intervention training
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- More than three (3) months but less than one(1) year or prior related experience including experience with frontline work in a social services setting.
Skills and Capabilities
- Moderate amount of keyboarding and performing walk abouts.
- Continuous monitoring of the environment security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.
This is a casual position with no fixed scheduled working hours.
Salary starts at $18.57 per hour
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $19.12 to $20.37 with a maximum of $21.61.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
