Job Description:

The Director of Disability and Access Services ensures the University of Baltimore is in compliance with federal regulations in the provision of accommodations and access for students to campus courses facilities and events. This position works closely with campus leadership including Deans Associate and Assistant Deans and others in collaboration to ensure students with disabilities are given the same learning opportunities as their non-disabled peers. The position also works with staff to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations for eligible students. The Director will participate on various campus committees to advocate for students with disabilities when decisions are made that could impact accessibility.

The role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with up to two days of telework possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Accommodation Requests
    • Ensure reasonable accommodations for all UBalt students who register with DAS
    • Assess individual students needs for reasonable accommodations by detailed review of documentation
    • Direct and manage contracted services with agencies and/or part-time hourly employees to ensure CART and Sign Language Interpreting services are available
  • Student Support and Compliance
    • Supervise DAS staff to ensure DAS compliance with federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to disability
    • Collaborate with members of the University community and campus partners to meet the needs of UBALT students and ensure University compliance with local state and federal regulations and mandates
    • Serve as co-chair of the Universitys ADA Committee to oversee the Universitys compliance with federal laws and regulations
    • Serve as a member of the Digital Accessibility Taskforce
    • Establish and maintain liaisons with other agencies servicing students with disabilities and other University offices.
    • Serve as an educator by increasing awareness of the potential needs and contributions of students with disabilities among students faculty and staff by offering or coordinating workshops seminars and/or forums on disability issues
    • Create and update as needed the semesterly Emergency Evacuation plan to share with Facilities Management and other appropriate stakeholders
  • Office Management
    • Develop review and provide input for campus policies and procedures related to/impacting students with disabilities to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to their courses campus facilities and campus events.
    • Determine office budgetary needs and work with the divisions business manager on planning and budgetary requests
  • Data and Assessment
    • Serve as Level 5 DAS manager for Maxient files
    • Develop and lead DAS assessment efforts
    • Use data to draw conclusions and make decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Higher Education Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology Special Education or related fields.
  • 7 years of higher education experience in disability services
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a related field
  • Experience leading and managing an office or division responsible for delivering disability services
  • Knowledge of social model of disability and disability culture and development
  • Use of Maxient for case management

  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Stay abreast of national state and local disability-related issues and actively participate in disability-related professional organizations
