Job Description: English Teacher IB Continuum (MYP & DP)
Location: Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) Ooty
Grades: IX X XI & XII
Curriculum: IB (MYP & DP) IG ISC
Reporting Line
- Reports to the Head of Department (English)
- Works in close coordination with the IB Coordinator and Section Coordinators
I. Planning Development & Implementation
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the GSIS context IB philosophy and curriculum standards.
- Contribute to the development and continuous review of IB IG and ISC curriculum ensuring diversity equity and inclusion in all learning experiences.
- Design and deliver curriculum across English Language and Literature components.
- Prepare structured lesson plans including:
- Learning objectives
- Content specifications
- Inquiry/focus questions
- Teaching methodologies
- Learning resources
- Engagement strategies
- Assessment and assignments
- Develop learner-centered inquiry-driven learning engagements.
- Analyse previous academic results and adapt teaching strategies to improve outcomes.
- Differentiate instruction based on students abilities learning styles and needs.
- Implement inquiry-based learning to develop conceptual understanding and critical thinking.
- Select and design appropriate course materials and resources.
II. Teaching & Learning Approach
- Create a positive inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that promotes active learning.
- Develop students competencies in speaking reading writing and listening within a structured framework.
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate individual differences and special educational needs (SEN).
- Conduct remedial and enrichment sessions where necessary.
- Implement innovative teaching strategies that promote ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills.
- Facilitate creative reflective and collaborative learning experiences.
- Integrate technology and modern teaching methodologies effectively.
- Mentor and guide students academically socially and emotionally.
- Maintain strong classroom management based on consistency compassion and mutual respect.
- Prepare students for mock exams inter-house and inter-school competitions.
III. Assessment & Feedback
- Design and implement effective formative and summative assessments aligned with IB and other curricula.
- Monitor and assess student progress continuously using tools such as ManageBac.
- Provide timely constructive oral and written feedback.
- Guide students through projects and coursework until completion.
- Track and share unit progress with relevant stakeholders.
- Reflect on teaching practices and continuously improve instructional strategies.
IV. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress attendance and assessments.
- Document evidence of student learning as per school policies.
V. Behaviour Management & Safeguarding
- Establish a safe respectful and disciplined learning environment.
- Apply behaviour management strategies fairly and consistently.
- Promote student well-being self-discipline and independence.
- Act as a role model demonstrating professionalism and integrity.
- Adhere strictly to child safeguarding policies and protocols.
VI. Teamwork & Collaboration
- Participate actively in departmental and school meetings.
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular and technology-integrated learning.
- Support professional development initiatives and mentor new staff.
- Contribute to pastoral care and school activities.
- Provide cover for colleagues when required.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Postgraduate degree in English
- . (English)
- 5 years of experience teaching IB BOARDS
- Experience preparing students for English Paper 1 and/or Paper 2
Desirable:
- Experience as an IB Examiner
- Experience in a residential/international school
