Job Summary

Job Purpose
We are a British-owned company that manufactures (mainly) toys in Asia. We are seeking an experienced Product Engineer to support our new product development process from initial design stages through to pilot run. This role will work closely with our UK-based product development team and Vietnam-based production teams to ensure product safety quality standards and manufacturing feasibility are maintained throughout the development cycle.

This is a technical R&D-focused role that sits at the intersection of product design and manufacturing representing the UK Product Teams interests during the development phase and ensuring alignment between design intent and production capability. The successful candidate will work primarily on new product development rather than ongoing production operations.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
  • Follow new product development from initial design stages through to pilot run working as the technical liaison between UK Design and Product teams and Vietnam production facilities
  • Identify and assess product risks related to safety construction and manufacturing feasibility during the development phase
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments during pilot runs reviewing all processes from cutting through to packing for new developments only
  • Advise on any issues identified and provide the UK team with Corrective Action Plans including recommendations for updates to visual guides and work instructions
  • Work with quality teams in factories to ensure compliance with international safety standards and address quality and construction issues that could create safety risks
  • Conduct factory-side audits focused on new product development processes and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Collaborate with UK-based development teams Vietnam-based production teams and quality control teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment throughout the product development cycle

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years experience in R&D merchandising or product engineering with specific focus on the development stage
  • Strong background in textile garment or footwear manufacturing
  • Demonstrated expertise in product risk assessment and safety compliance
  • Experience conducting pilot run assessments and providing technical recommendations
  • Proven ability to identify construction and quality issues during product development
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes from cutting through to packing
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across UK and Vietnam-based teams
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Degree in Textile Engineering or related discipline is desirable
  • Willing to travel frequently
