JOB DESCRIPTION FOR A COUNCIL RELATIONS MANAGER
The Council Relations Manager is responsible for delivering a high-impact seamless and engaging experience for members across assigned Asia Councils. This role plays a critical part in strengthening member relationships driving engagement and retention and ensuring the successful execution of council programs and meetings.
This is a highly dynamic client-facing role that requires a strong balance of relationship management operational excellence and strategic thinking. The Council Relations Manager acts as a key connector between members internal stakeholders and program delivery teams to ensure maximum value is realized from each council interaction.
As a Council Relations Manager:
You are a proactive relationship builder who ensures members are actively engaged and receiving value from their council participation. You are highly organized detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You collaborate cross-functionally to deliver exceptional experiences while continuously improving processes and outcomes based on feedback and insights.
Your Responsibilities as a Council Relations Manager would be:
Member Engagement & Experience
Drive active participation and engagement across assigned council members
Partner with internal stakeholders to align content and resources with member business needs
Develop and deliver high-quality communications including agendas summaries and highlights
Analyze member feedback and implement improvements to enhance overall experience
Member Retention & CRM Management
Monitor and track member engagement attendance and retention metrics
Identify at-risk members and support retention or replacement strategies
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CRM systems
Generate reports and insights to support decision-making and performance tracking
Meeting & Event Operations
Plan and execute council meetings across in-person virtual and hybrid formats
Coordinate logistics including venues vendors travel accommodation and technical requirements
Ensure all meeting materials meet quality standards and are delivered on time
Manage budgets track costs and ensure delivery within financial targets
Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with program leaders and internal teams to deliver seamless member experiences
Communicate and resolve issues proactively and professionally
Support departmental goals including engagement revenue and operational excellence
Continuous Improvement & Support
Identify opportunities to enhance processes and member experience
Support leadership and team initiatives as required
Contribute to achieving overall team performance targets
Qualifications as a Council Relations Manager:
Education
Bachelors degree required
Experience
Minimum 23 years of experience in a client-facing role
Experience in hospitality events or stakeholder management is highly advantageous
Experience working in fast-paced KPI-driven environments preferred
Technical Skills
Proficiency in MS Office tools
Experience using CRM systems (e.g. Sugar Salesforce HubSpot or similar)
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Core Competencies
Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Analytical mindset with ability to interpret feedback and data
Adaptable and agile in a fast-changing environment
Calm and composed under pressure with strong problem-solving ability
