Job Summary
Job Title: Kubernetes Database Engineer
Location: Oporto and Portugal
Work Regime: Full-time & Hybrid
Overview / Summary:
We are looking for a Kubernetes Database Engineer to design deploy and operate database services running on Kubernetes-based platforms. The role sits at the intersection of database administration infrastructure automation and cloud-native engineering with direct ownership over the database layer across multiple services and technologies.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Deploy manage and optimize stateful database workloads on Kubernetes with a primary focus on PostgreSQL
- Implement persistent storage solutions backup and restore pipelines data replication and HA/DR strategies
- Develop automation for provisioning upgrades and scaling using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform Ansible or equivalent)
- Monitor and troubleshoot database and cluster performance
- Enforce security standards: RBAC encryption secrets management and network policies
- Collaborate with DevOps Platform Engineering and Development teams to design and evolve database-as-a-service patterns
- Contribute to international projects and influence current and future technology choices
Requirements
Experience Required
- Proven hands-on experience running and managing databases on Kubernetes
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL in production environments
- Experience with HA/DR architecture and persistent storage in Kubernetes
- Practical background in CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform Ansible)
- Familiarity with Kubernetes security practices: RBAC secrets management network policies encryption
- Experience working in shift-based or on-call operational models
- Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively at both technical and business levels
